Is only my country lunatic and evil with sentences or is it crazy elsewhere too?

A mother put a hot iron on her daughter's legs a few times, immense burn wounds, also put it on her face. She lies that it was a mistake. They don't believe her. The wounds say enough. The daughter didn't go to the police because she thought she deserved punishment. What is the punishment for the mother? 70 hours task sentence. That is a few days cleaning the park with a stick. Infuriating.

we have the same ridiculous sentencing here ....

A friend of mine went to prison for being a prohibited person with a gun. He didn't commit any crimes, just liked to do some plinking.
He got 3 years.
Another guy in town (also a prohibeted person) shot at a house he suspected his ex wife of being in, (her aunt's house).
They found 17 guns in his house.
He stole a front-end loader, used it to pick up his ex's car and hauled it away (auto theft?)
He's still free, and as far as I can tell will remain free.
I guess if you are a felon, you are better off shooting at a house than a paper target.

Pardon me?

"Juan Orlando Hernández, the former president of Honduras, has been released from a prison, according to online records of federal inmates"

"Hernández was found guilty in March 2024 of conspiring to import cocaine" "He was sentenced to 45 years in prison."

"Under Mr. al-Assad’s rule, more than 100,000 people disappeared, according to the United Nations, more than in any other regime since the Nazis."

"Now, the Assads are fugitives living in Moscow.

Both the deposed president and his brother Maher, one of the regime’s most powerful military leaders, have betrayed little about how they spend their days in the country that propped them up when they were in power and took them in when they fell."

I read or hear stuff like this and I think "Why do I worry about making sure my fall leaves are on the curb
and not in the street as the rules dictate? Would they really cancel my lease on me for it?"
I then think about all the things people are getting away with or the fact they think they should get
away with things.
All I know is I have to live with myself, look myself in the mirror and doing mean, unlawful, harmful cruel
things is just not who I am. I have to give in and change for some of society's BS but I won't follow on
things like these.
