Is there a heating oil shortage?

I thought it's been a long time since my last fuel delivery. I checked the fuel tank gauge on Saturday and it's just about 1/4 full. Of course being Saturday, the business is closed for the weekend. I just called them to inquire when I'm scheduled for my next delivery. I was told that they didn't see me on the schedule until Wednesday. I told them I only had 1/4 tank and that was Saturday. Reply- "We're getting to our customers in as orderly fashion as we can. If you run out, call us and we'll see if we can get you an emergency delivery."

I don't know what the capacity of your oil tank is, but I have several thousand litres and always get it filled in time.

I'm on auto-delivery and it usually goes to 1/4 or below before they show up. They've never let it run out. If you run out, though, you'll need to bleed the line, so I hope they fill you up soon.

It sounds like a polite scripted response to me.

If it’s been ‘a long time’ and you still have a quarter of a tank I wouldn’t worry about waiting until Wednesday.

I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that there is a shortage. They could have their own internal issues with labor, equipment, etc…

If you are seriously concerned, request an emergency delivery but be sure to inquire about any additional charges that may apply.

Looks like a 275 US gallon tank in the op.

We left the fuel oil bill on the east coast - it is a major upgrade in comfort, reliability and economy. Heat is now both natural gas and electric, so no longer at the mercy of a delivery and the constant flux of the oil mkt.

They told me Monday when I spoke to my fuel supplier that I would get a delivery on Wednesday (today). I waited home all day. No one has come and the company closes in an hour, so I called. I was informed that the driver that does my route "called in". I assume that means he didn't show up for work. I was assured I would get oil tomorrow.

I don't know why EVERYTHING goes sour for me. I just hope I don't run out - the furnace is running almost constantly because it's so cold here.

They probably scheduled your route for first thing in the morning.

I think it's because you fret over things that might happen if the worst that could happen happened, but that's just my opinion.

This is called catastrophizing. "What if..." And "what if" can drain even the heartiest of souls. Ask me how I know.
You had a quarter tank just 4 days ago... you won't run out especially if they fill it this week. (y)

I posted on NextDoor asking if anyone had this company for fuel. One person said they did and are almost out, too. They called and were promised a delivery which never showed up.
If the delivery driver called in sick it seems like there would be several people that didn’t get a delivery.

If you believe that the company is in some way negligent you could always change but how many times since they have been providing your fuel have you actually run out.

It's been less than a year. I checked the last three fuel oil bills from this company. I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but I always got it on the 22nd of the months in January, March and October.

When my car's gas tank get to 1/3 or 1/4 full, I fill up, but that's something I have control over.
