Is There Anything In Your Retirement You Did Not Plan For?

I paid special attention to my post-retirement insurance so when I applied I knew what to ask. All in all retiring was easy and nothing has hit me in the face since I left work. I am living a lazier life than I thought I would but that does not make me a bad person now does it?!

First thing...….health problems, as in cataracts and hearing and almost daily arthritis pain. But, hopefully, the arthritis pain thing may change when we move to a much higher elevation.

Second thing...…..MONEY. Other than health, money is extremely important during retirement years. Can do a lot more with a nice retirement monthly payment, than not.

What I was not prepared for was being downsized at age 59 during a recession. That resulted in a crash course in frugal living. Job hunting was total frustration. The kids had finished school, but there was still a mortgage. A few years later the mortgage was paid off and then I did retire. We have had some good times since.

Widowhood, serious mobility problems and vision impairment.

I expected we would walk, hand in hand, albeit a bit stiffly, towards the sunset.

As it is, it is a lonely and painful road.

No, we tried very hard to look at all possible scenarios for our retirement and old age. Actually, if one of us dies, the other is in clover, LOL. Less expense and the same income!
