Is This a Stupid Idea for a Puzzle Board?

I made a thread about getting a puzzle board and got some good ideas. I'm looking at a tray on Amazon. It would not be big enough for all puzzles but would be easy to maneuver. I was at the PAWS thrift store last week and they had a large framed picture with glass. I had no interest in the picture but the frame. I was wondering if something like that could work as a puzzle board? The frame would keep the pieces from sliding off the edge. Thoughts? Thanks.

And again, due to the cats, especially my tabby, the puzzle could never remain out.

I looked at the same puzzle tray on Amazon I think you're talking about and it looks great but don't want to spend that much $$ right now and I was afraid it might be too heavy due to its wooden frame. (I need to move the puzzle around.) So what I'm doing instead is using an empty Swiss Colony box lid (from a Christmas gift); it's sturdy but lightweight cardboard and is 22 inches wide by 27 inches long by 2 inches in height. I don't think it'll be able to handle any puzzle with more than about 750 pieces without being too cramped.

That's a good idea and a good size. Right now I don't have any puzzles larger that 500 pieces.

Well it probably would work, but it would be a flippin' faff to put the glass on top of the pieces every time you wanted to put it away and pray you don't mess up the pieces or knock them off in the act of doing it..

have you seen those roll up... or fold up puzzle boards ?

Hi holly, yes I got a roll up mat at Walmart for 7 dollars. I haven't tried it yet. I'd get a size I can put under my coffee table that has a low bottom shelf, or under another console in the living room. I have craft magazines stashed under there right now but could move them.

Last year at a "thrift store", I bought a cork board with a sturdy frame (21 x 34 inches) with the intention of using it for jigsaw puzzles. Since then, I have been "solving" jigsaw puzzles on line.

What site do you use? I didn't think I'd like the online ones but found jigsawplanet and I really like it. I still want to do actual puzzles and I thought of a cork board also. I'm still looking.

As in your last thread about this, I suggested you get a piece of light mahogany !/8 inch thick and cut it to fit over your puzzle
so your babies can't get into it. Most hardware stores have that in 2 foot by 4 foot sizes and if you ask them, they will probably cut it for you.
It's really lightweight and will protect your puzzle.
Go with your idea, @Remy, You're thinking is innovating and creative! I love that!
You could even put wheels on it to slide under the bed.

Thank you Gaer for the reminder on this. I think it's a good suggestion.

@Gaer is on the right track

I'd lay out the size needed and get a piece of 3/16" plywood cut to that size
Staple an edge of 1/4" x 1/2" (to keep pieces from straying)
and get another sheet cut to fit within the edging
Tack some carpet to the bottom (to slide on the floor....or...)

At least that's what I'd do
