It must have been my luck day.

I had just arrived at the petrol station near my home and filled up the car which registered $25.00. On my way into the shop a lady came out with a huge
smile on her face. She said to me "It's your lucky day today, I've just paid for your petrol". WOT, I was stunned thinking it was a hoax, I said "Are you kidding me?" She
said "No. enjoy your day" and got into her car and drove off. I went into the shop and said to the cashier, "Did she really pay for my petrol?" He said "Do you know her? "I had never seen her in my life. "Maybe she just won the Lotto". I couldn't believe it and got into my car and had a big cry. I told my son, and he said, "Well Mum, you are always helping people, you deserve it. and this was your turn to reap the benefits".

Has anybody here experienced such a gesture?

Yes, at the grocery...a few years back I was in the checkout line
when some younger than me guy told the cashier to put my
total on his bill...it stunned me....whoever he is thank you...oh
just recalled in another supermarket once a lady came to the
checkout and handed 10bucks to the casheir to put against
my total!!!!! And in return I have done this a couple times...!!!

that's fabulous.... some people will pay forward a kindness if they've received a kindness...

I'll give you an example that I've spoken about here a long time ago.

On another forum, I was talking about trying to find an Arran wool cardigan and how expensive they were. A lady who was new to to the forum, who I'd never spoken to, said if I was willing to pay for the wool only, she would knit it for me for free.. so we agreed , and she did. Now Arran knitting is not easy, it's hard work .
Anyway she did it very quickly, and in the beautiful shade of red I wanted. ..She said she would send the invoice in with the parcel.
When the parcel arrived instead of the invoice was a beautiful letter, saying she wanted no payment, and that something along the lines of that that she'd made a pact with God, if he saved her terminally ill sister she would pay it forward ... the sister survived, and she was paying her promises to God... she wished me love and luck wearing the cardigan.

She left the forum after that and I never saw her again.

That’s a wonderful gesture.

Nothing like that has ever happened to me but I have bailed out a few children that were facing tough decisions at the checkout.

I believe that those thoughtful gestures do us more good than the people that we help as long as they are heartfelt and not some sort of TikTok challenge.
