Italy's Migration Problems Dire

I guess things are reaching the boiling point everywhere. Between the wars, stumbling economies, policy-induced energy crises, and general poor policy the floodgates have been open for a while. Crime is getting out of control, community destroyed as housing problems and crowding isolates people among strangers.

Assuming the issues aren't being exaggerated, it doesn't let Americans off the hook. I can see immigration pressure rising here as Europeans get more desperate to escape.

The immigration "pump primer" Canada has slammed on the brakes after making a mess:

Government of Canada reduces immigration

So those flows may well try to change course south.

Slower controlled legal immigration on a case by case basis is onething. But mass continuous migration with frequent surges drains resources and quickly/ sometimes radically can change a community for ever.

It is a crisis in Europe. As far as Canada is concerned just pull up actual immigration numbers. People are leaving! travel.state.gov offers actual historic numbers on US immigration by visa type. The hordes are not coming via that route.

People have feet, and they use them. The idea that mass migrations happen is not new. The locals are locals only because their ancestors moved in on the previous locals. And anytime there's a mass migration, nobody is happy; the people who have to move, nor the people to where they move.
I guess you could shoot them at the border, but you'd better shoot those breeder females first.

It seems to be an issue many places right now though, at the same time. Is it as "sudden" as it seems, or has it simply gotten so cumulatively serious that discussion and acknowledgement of it has penetrated years of censorship?

Now that permissive policies have fallen on their faces as they've lost control I don't think there is any serious way to reverse the matter. Certainly nothing civilized or conscionable.

But to adapt to the circumstances now at hand after decades of mismanagement through policies destined to produce these outcomes... some kind of changes must be made.

That probably means rolling back other policies that are incompatible with the state of things left in the wake of bad immigration policy. Things like wishful energy policy, gentrified housing policy, hands-off policing, generous welfare policies, and who knows what else? Changes from the corrective to the truly ugly.

Oh, Gee! My wife and I were beginning to plan a trip to Greece, Italy and Spain this summer. This may throw a wrench into the works. I have been looking forward to a trip over to Greece for years.

Sounds like the trip our daughter and her husband just returned from. They enjoyed it and had no problems or discomforts. Hope you folks enjoy it as well, if you decide to give it a try.(y)
