I'm always getting bitten by bugs, especially mosquitoes, they love me and leave my husband alone for the most part. I was bitten by something in my house a couple of days ago, I don't think it was a mosquitoe but it might have been a spider or something. Well sure enough it started itching on my ankle and I started scratching as usual until I was ripping the skin and making it bleed.

A lot of times I can't control having to scratch or rub it until it's raw, even then when it scabs over I'll still get itching and keep at it. I read somewhere that Lavender Oil was good for itching bites. I just happened to be using it on a cotton ball in my pillow case at night for relaxation. I poured a couple of drops out straight from the bottle on the bite and the itching stopped. Amazingly enough, it didn't start again after that and I haven't had the need to scratch at all, so now it's healing.

I'll definitely be using that again the next time I get bit (or stung), if it works a second time it will be like gold for me.

OOO -- I'll have to try that. I have two mosquito bites that are driving me nuts. I usually use the old faithful calamine lotion, which helps.

With all my outdoor and yard activities, I live with bug bites for about 6 months a year. I use one of two "compounds" to relieve the itch, etc. I keep some stuff called "Chiggerex" handy...sold at Walmart for about $4 a container...and that works for most of the bites. In the event I get one that is particularly bad, I spread some "Preparation H" on it...and that quickly resolves the issue.

Never heard of using lavender oil, will have to try that some time. Thank you for the hint.

I usually just use a solid deodorant stick on my bug bites which stops the itch.
