It's In The Eyes

People commonly say, "You can see it in his/her eyes"
Example: You can tell by looking at his eyes, he is in love
"One look at his dead eyes you can tell he's a killer."
Many, many other examples.

But is that true ? I mean , seriously, the eye balls don't change from one emotion to another. The rest of the face does change, but never the eyes. Yes, around the eyes, eye lids alter. Other facial muscles constantly change, BUT NEVER the eye balls. Oh, sure the retina's expand and contract due exclusively to the amount of light.

Thus, i contend that we can't see anything 'in the eyes'. Certainly not emotions.

I will attest to the fact you can tell all kinds of emotions when looking into a person's eyes. Across the room, a glance shares feelings and emotions. Up close, intenseness and love, or suspicion or dislike, lies or doubts, no conscience.....all emotions are there if only we pay attention. And believe me, I pay attention.😊

I think there are non-verbal messages people send, the eyes and facial expression are a big part of that.

However, we (me anyway) are not always good at reading them and not always right. Its as much art as science.

The eyes play a role in nonverbal communication, with such things as looking, staring, and blinking being important cues. For example, when you encounter people or things that you like, your rate of blinking increases and your pupils dilate.

People's eyes can indicate a range of emotions, including hostility, interest, and attraction. People also utilize eye gaze as a means to determine if someone is being honest.

Normal, steady eye contact is often taken as a sign that a person is telling the truth and is trustworthy. Shifty eyes and an inability to maintain eye contact, on the other hand, is frequently seen as an indicator that someone is lying or being deceptive.

Very interesting šŸ¤”.

I think it is the muscles around the eyes and face that tells the story.

Eyes can tell us all kinds of things, if we care to study them.

When I go over the road to visit a certain lovely lady, without saying a word, she looks me up and down, gives me a little rebuke, notices if my shoelaces are tied properly, then a warm eyes welcome.....and that's before I even step inside the door. 😊

I'm not good at reading body language and all that.

I had a boyfriend who said he could tell if someone was lying by their eyes. Once, during a discussion, he grabbed me and held me at arm's length to look at my eyes. The implication being, of course, that he thought I was lying.

So the whole idea is distasteful to me.

I paint faces and critics have told me "You don't paint people. You paint souls!"
They back this up right away saying, "All the emotions are in the eyes!"
I do, try to capture the essence of a person through their eyes, when I paint.

And, Don't the pupils enlarge when a person looks at someone they love?
And, You can see white under the pupils of people you can't trust, "criminals?"
The health of a person is revealed in the whites of their eyes.
Humor, apathy, love: You can see everything about them through their eyes.
(the expressions of their souls) Well, In my opinion.

The eyes do change from one emotion to another. Apparently not everyone can recognize what a person's eyes are saying.

The very first time Michelle and I looked each other in the eyes, I knew that very moment, without a single doubt, we'd wind up a couple, and I knew she knew it too. And neither of us had said a word yet.
