It's UPS with your dinner?

Have you noticed the trend in internet food stores? You join those internet diet companies, and they send you daily meals. Now, there are ads for internet grocery stores that send daily meals or the ingredients to make meals.
What do think of getting groceries via UPS?

Some people here have done it. I'd rather go to the market at this point, but I think it's great for many people. How about pizza by drone?

"What do think of getting groceries via UPS?"

Been getting a lot of my groceries on line for some years, not just stuff like sugar, flour and canned goods but including fresh stuff like meat and fish.

Most of my main meals are delivered frozen, already made up. The delivery company puts the straight into my deep freeze and I take them out as required.

I normally order every month or so.

I prefer to go to the store and select my own groceries.

We still have a couple of local grocery stores that will shop for you and deliver for a fee. We also have an app called Rosie that works with a couple of local stores. I think that I would prefer that local connection for fresh foods.

I keep an eye on these services as a way for me to maintain my independence in the years to come.

I also keep an eye on the local Meals on Wheels, my mother paid for that service, the food was good and the current private pay rate where I live is a reasonable $7.75/day for one hot and one cold meal. I like the idea of someone stopping by five days a week to make sure I'm still right side up.

There are similar companies in the UK - at twice the price I can cook a meal for. I think it's sad that many people have lost the skill or inclination to cook a good meal at home. As long as I can cook, I'll not buy in a ready meal.

I prefer to pick out my own food at the store. Once in awhile our local grocery store will have a special if you sign up. First order free or a percentage off for a certain amount.Depending what the amount is, I sign up and if I am out of canned goods or paper products, bread, milk or eggs, bread, anything other than produce or fresh meats and fish, I do it. You can also drive to the store, they have special parking spots with a phone you can use to tell them you are there for your order and they will bring it out to you. If I were to go that route I might as well go in the store, but I guess for some people who may be handicapped and unable to walk, it would be a help.

When my right arm was in a cast and I couldn't drive, I was very happy local markets delivered my order (like they did in bygone days before every woman had a car) for the cost of $10. and brought my bags into the house.

If something was out of stock they called me and offered what was available at the sale price, if the item was on sale.

For $5.00, they would shop and pack up my order for someone else to pick up for me and put it into their car.

Everything they chose for me was as fresh or even looked better sometimes, than I would choose myself!

Yeah, I'd like to have my groceries delivered, IF they were the same price and quality as the supermarket. I know this sounds dumb, but it's like I was cheating on my grocery store. They were there for me, and I abandoned them. Never thought I'd say that.

"many people have lost the skill or inclination to cook a good meal at home."

Haven't lost the skill or inclination, just the physical ability!

Even buying in already prepared vegetables and oven ready joints for cooking at home is just too much hassle. If I stand for ten minutes I have to sit for fifteen. That's not a good equation!

I think in another couple of generations it is likely that hardly anyone cooks as it is catered either by shipping it to the home or by eating out.
I am often in a group of people who seem really surprised that I still cook everything from scratch, yet I find it odd that folks would pay money for precooked food that they warm , to me that is just left overs.

So no I would not use the service, I can cook it better, fresher, and cheaper, however if someone else cannot do that or doesn't want to and they are not concerned by quality then I would say go for it.

I do have groceries delivered from my local store, the heavy basics usually but the fresh or perishable I have to choose personally and I shop at many different shops anyway to get some of the foods I want.

I would love it if I could afford it. All the reviews I've seen people love it and say the shoppers who pick out the items do a great job. I might be more inclined to order groceries and go to pick them up instead of walking all over looking for things. I used to pay someone to shop for me and I admit it actually saved me from picking up items I could do without. I spend a lot more on my own.

I'd rather do it on my own, and I wouldn't want to have prepared meals, except if there were a reason like back when I was recovering from my hip surgeries. Then I was delighted to have people bring me food, and I even bought some prepared frozen meals.
