I've got an "FBI surveillance 1" thing on my computers???????????????????

My first guess would be some sort of scam in the making, like the scare-ware that tells you that you have a virus and urges you to click their link to clean things up, only to give you a real virus.

Or it is nothing more than another WIFI network, named as such to scare neighbors.

I doubt the FBI would announce their own surveillance effort, but they are a government agency so who knows.

I'm having problems with my cable TV & computer stuff. I'm getting new equipment today, But my tablet wouldn't connect. when I checked out the WiFi connection, I saw this under WiFi. "FBIsurvellance1. What the hell is this thing. Anybody know anything about this?
someone has likely named their wifi that in your area. It's meant to be a joke.

Lol I used to live in my younger days in an area with some " retired " low level mobsters and one house pretty much 24/7 had a '' laundry delivery '' type van parked across street and the '' laundry delivery '' men would switch every 8 hours or so .

This is way before drones and other things they have now .

I agree with who_so_ever, it is just someone's humorous name for their wifi. I live in highrise, so there are a lot of wifi names that show up in my list (all locked, darn it! ha ha). No one here has a funny name, but we're all old people so maybe our creativity is waning.

Funny joke- how can I remove it, and when I click on it to not automatically connect, why does it always revert to "automatically connect"? I don't want somebody's joke on my computer.

I would go to system; security Virus and Malware detect and repair.
Then try Wi-Fi again, sign in with the password for your Wi-Fi. Once
you have your puter ok then try the same stuff with the tablet.

Auto connect is in system; System, Home, Internet Wi-Fi Auto Connect page.
It may need shut off and then back on.

Maybe peruse thru System and Home pages, not changing anything until you refamiliarize yourself with the functions it offers you.
Size of screen, sound, Anti-Virus downloads, lock screen, themes, background, that stuff. Do a scan of available Wi-Fi networks,
select yours, enter password that should get you up and running. Your tablet may need the lil micro-SD card installed in it.
I needed them for my I Pads. At& t, Verizon, etc.

The name of your system and PW should be inside the box, on the Wifi and card?

Found this and it should answer your question. Oh, and if it's someone's WiFi name, I'm not sure if you can remove it.

People have used Wi-Fi names like "FBI Surveillance," "FBI Surveillance Van," and "FBI Van" since the early days of the internet. If you see one while scanning for networks, here's what it might mean:
  • It's a prank: Wi-Fi owners can set up their networks for anything they want—including "FBI Surveillance," just for laughs.
  • To scare others: Seeing "FBI" in a network name can be intimidating and might be used to freak people out.
  • To deter intruders: Some people use these names to discourage others from connecting to or attempting to hack into their networks.
  • To phish for information: On the flip side, names like these can trick anyone curious into connecting, allowing bad actors to spy on activities or steal data.

According to chatgpt, this is how to fix that annoying issue:

✅ The Most Reliable Fix:

Forget the network entirely.
That ensures your device doesn’t remember it or try to auto-connect in the future.

🔹 On Windows:

  • Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → Manage known networks
  • Click on the network → Forget

🔹 On Mac:

  • Go to System Settings → Network → Wi-Fi → Known Networks
  • Click the i next to the network → Forget This Network

🔹 On iPhone:

  • Go to Settings → Wi-Fi
  • Tap the i next to the network → Forget This Network

🔹 On Android:

  • Long-press the network name → Forget

One time I had brief flash indicating I was under surveillance by my local police department, and it correctly named the department. There was more information but the flash was too quick to catch more. This was 25 years ago. I don't have a clue what this was about or why I may have warranted surveillance. It was creepy, but I wasn't afraid. My thought was, "I hope you guys have brought lots of donuts, because you're going to get really bored tracing my internet activity.

Could that have been the beginning of a scam? I don't think it was, but then how would you know? It correctly named the police, but I didn't see my name on it. Of course, it was just a flash. I pictured some detective pressing a wrong button, followed by an "oops" as he was new to his equipment.

I doubt if it’s anything to worry about. The FBI uses more clandestine methods when tracking any illegal online activities. If they are running a covert operation, they don’t give the user any reason to be suspicious that the person is being tracked.

Nothing to worry about. I see that in my building sometimes. It's just a wifi name some use. If you are having connection problems then that's something different.

Mine is written down right on the bottom of the router.

Where we used to live there was a Network name of 'HMRC Fraud Investigations.' We never did find out for sure who it was but one particularly rambunctious neighbour was a prime suspect

I think it is a neighbor nearby who named their Wifi

FBI surveillance 1

There is one listed on mine too. People try to be funny.
Mine is just random numbers and letters. Plugged it in once and never looked at it again.

FBIsurvellance1 is not your WiFi network and you shouldn't log onto FBIsurvellance1 ... automatic or otherwise.
FBIsurvellance1 WiFi network belongs to someone within probably about a half block radius from you.
