I've not been online as much because of computer problems

Haven't been posting as much because 2 of my browsers were infected with Trojan viruses so I am using Opera now and it is not infected. I will have to take my computer into the shop to get it back to where I can use Firefox and maybe get a newer version of Windows installed. That may have to wait as I have other things to spend money on right now. So I'm stuck with using the Opera browser. It's not so bad.

Since I never heard of Opera, I'm afraid I have no idea what you're dealing with. But good luck anyhow!

Everything is happening to you now isn't it? I hated Opera so much I uninstalled it. Good luck and I hope you get things back to where you want them quickly.

I would guess the virus is in your computer not any browser...

Opera hasn't been too bad for me but on some sites it doesn't do too well.

What are you using for an Anti-Virus? Have you tried doing a system scan with your Anti-virus? You might try downloading a program called Malwarebytes, and running a scan with it....it is free.

I have an Anti-virus called AVGfree and got rid of the virus but along with getting rid of the virus my Firefox browser won't work now. I have a malware program, too. I will try yours, too, thanks.

a free program called HitMan Pro found and got rid of a Trojan in my system that my McAfee antivirus couldn't find. Worth a try.
Thanks for that. I'll look it up.

Yes, when it rains it pours it seems..I'm afraid I'll have to go to the computer shop.

I just used that program, I have a similar one called SuperSpyAntiMalware or something like that. I got rid of the virus with the programs I have, where ever it was, it destroyed my ability to use 2 browsers, but the virus is gone.

If you were able to get rid of the virus, and it appears that Firefox, etc., is no longer working, you might want to Uninstall Firefox, and do a new Install. If you are using W10, that is easy...go to your files and programs page, locate Firefox, right click on it, and click on Uninstall. That will take a couple of minutes, then you can go to the Firefox URL, and do a new install. W7 is just about the same...find your programs, and do an uninstall, then a new install. If you take your computer to a shop, that is basically what they will do....and charge you $100+ for their service.

I already tried that Don. Every time I try to uninstall Firefox it says that I must close the firefox that is running even though there is no Firefox running. I have Vista by the way. I had to uninstall Chrome and can't reinstall that because Chrome no longer supports Vista and they don't have any older versions of Chrome available. So, I'm ahead of you on that Don.

OK...I'm not familiar with Vista...it had such a bad rep that I never installed it. IF Vista behaves like other MS systems, you should be able to go to the Task Manager, and find Firefox....and then "end" it from there. A quick way to get to the task manager on most MS systems is to hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, which will bring up the TM, then right click on Firefox, and you should have an "End"option.

Thanks, I'll go look for the TM.

I don't have a taskbar manager Don. But instead I turned my computer off and that closed firefox and so I was able to uninstall it. Now I am going to try and install it again. Wish me luck! :)

Yay!!! I got Firefox back online and am using it now. I can use Facebook and many other sites again!!:woohoo1:

Having similar issues. Constantly running manual security scans. When the computer or internet slows online activity is pure work. Problem here is mostly erratic internet service along with a 3 year old budget computer. When I'm offline computer speeds up most of the time. I've replaced modem and router. I call for repairs and frequently get recording problems in your area should be fixed 6 hours later. I fall behind on work including emails, finances & posting or reading news sites. Here there is frequently a delay after typing in a command.

Good suggestions given though. I've always heard clean the registry is just as important as anything. Sometimes it does take different anti virus software. I too have also had trouble with firefox. But between erratic internet, old computer and normally tough websites it's hard to tell what the problem is.

Also test the opera website on a website speed tester like gtmetrix.com

Good Luck, your not alone.

Thanks, I have Firefox again and am so glad. Do you have a spyware program. Malwarebytes is good. The url is in this thread above. My computer must be at least 9 years old but I have a fast internet service and it's working well now. I'm so glad. I hope yours can get straightened out. I know the headache of computer issues!

Cleaning the Registry can certainly help. I have done that several times....using CCleaner...with good results. Cleaning the registry can, in a rare case, create problems, so I Always back up my files to my external HD before I do it. Another thing very important for optimum performance is to defrag/optimize your HD on a regular basis...I have W10 set to do it automatically, daily. However, if you are fighting an Internet Provider giving you marginal speed, etc., there isn't much you can do other than switch providers. I had Hughesnet satellite for a couple of years, and their service was a bad joke....then the local telephone company offered good service, so I switched. Now, we have fiber optics service, and I get 100MB download/upload consistently...and that is a Real Plus.

Thank you for all your ideas Ron. Got me on the track to getting Firefox back. I am now enjoying my internet experience instead of just tolerating Opera.
