Jaw problem

For the past several days my jaw has been giving me pain and weird clicking or popping and sometimes I can't close my mouth. It feels as if it is out of line if that makes sense. I don't know if I should see the doctor of the dentist.

It's likely fatigue or a minor issue involving your temporomandibular joint. Its not allowing for proper closure . I'd see the dentist. Its annoying but will likely go away in time !-

I had TMJ disorder back in the early 80's and sometimes in the morning my jaw would be stuck. Went to a dentist and was told it was caused by stress which made me clench my jaw a lot. I was offered expensive treatment which I couldn't afford but since I knew the cause I made a conscious effort to be aware of my jaw at all times and not clench it. Fixed it. Yours could be a different reason though, so check it out.

Thanks Annie. I don't clench my jaw and it doesn't get stuck, it's more like it's loose or falling open. It's strange.

I do the same thing, the clenching that is, and despite wearing a mouth guard at night, I usually have to take a tylenol first thing in the morning because I've given myself such a head ache from the pressure. It's quite awful. Before I started wearing the guard, I broke off so many corners and bits and pieces of my teeth. I figure that I internalize stress and it manifests by grinding at night.

As for your jaw problem Ruthanne, I've experienced the same kinds of things you describe, at various times. Do you grind your teeth at night? Are there signs of wear that you notice on any of your lower teeth that you can see or do you wake up with a headache or tired jaw muscles? Maybe that's part of the problem?

I don't grind my teeth. I used to maybe 20 years ago but haven't in a long time. I don't get headaches or tired jaw muscles. When I was at the dentist and he put a cap on a back tooth he shot that novicaine into my jaw and it hurt a lot, I think he may have injured it(this was last month). That's the only thing I can think of. Thank you for your concern. :)

Oh, a badly place dental needle could do it I would think. Maybe it's just a case of a badly bruised 'somethingorother'! Hope you feel better soon.
