Epstein, 66, was arrested in early July on charges of child sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit child sex trafficking after returning from France to Manhattan on a private plane. He had pleaded not guilty to those charges and was ordered held without bail.

Jeffrey Epstein, the wealthy financier accused of child sex trafficking, has committed suicide, three officials familiar with the matter told NBC News.

Epstein hanged himself in Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center, the sources said. He was found at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

He was on suicide watch ....... guess they didn't watch close enough ? :) Not surprised, he lived such an opulent life, he likely couldn't face life in jail. After all he has had a sample.

You could see his demeanor changed by his mugshot photo. He probably thought he had dealed his way of the situation years ago. Then when they reopened his case he realized it wouldn't be as easy to get out of it.

Although suicide a distinct possibility because he was obviously having trouble adapting is that maybe he wanted out so bad he was getting ready to spill his guts naming names to get out/stay out. It's motive for taking him out. Until more details comeout on the physical act and conditons themselves I not 100% sold on suicide.

I'm not sure did they clarify his alleged attack and suicide attempt in July?

What can you comment on? Are you truly sad that Epstein won't get to live a long happy life? Aren't you gladdened by the thought that he no longer has access to kids? So, maybe for once, his wealth didn't save him? He knew he was going to get shived to death, in prison, within a year, anyway. I really shouldn't admire convicts for doing that, but..........

BTW, as an aside. I was a Certified Psychiatric Nurse. The only way to prevent a suicide is to have an attendant remain within arm's length at ALL times., until the suicidal ideation is gone. There is NO time where that attendant is not 18 inches away. ( This is one of the reasons why psych treatment is so damn expensive.) Having someone check on you even every five minutes is absolutely useless. If people are intent on killing themselves, they will figure out a way. That's why you can't ever leave them alone.

Well, when I read this on CNN I said to myself, "Hey, here is more proof that money doesn't buy you happiness". Still, I can't figure why so many seniors keep going to casinos & buying lotto tickets thinking that if they will win some money, they will be very happy. Fools paradise, just like that old Jim Reeves song which I'm sure probably no one remembers.

Also the first thing I also thought of this morning when I heard about it. I thought, "Yeah, right....suicide."

Seeing reports that he was recently taken off suicide watch.

Seeing lots of tweets and articles written about the body counts of a certain political family. Some calling that a conspiracy theory, some taking it seriously.

I remember the song, but not sure i see the connection ?

Nothing wrong with playing the lotto, gambling etc. So long as folks can afford it. If that is entertainment to them, then as I see it, it is no different than anything else. It cost money to go to a movie entertainment, no difference.

Personally, I don't gamble...except on rare occasions , don't go to movies much either....But that's just me.

I agree. AND, they are saying now that he was NOT on suicide watch -- that he had been taken off, even though he allegedly made a suicide attempt some two weeks ago. Also, they are now saying he didn't exactly hang himself and some say he shoved a sock down his own throat. I have a feeling there may be more to this than meets the eye.
