In this Sept. 18, 2018 file photo, former President Jimmy Carter speaks as Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams listens during a news conference to announce her rural health care plan, in Plains, Ga. Carter is now the longest-living president in American history. The 39th president on Friday, March 15, 2019, reached the age of 94 years, 172 days - one day beyond the lifespan of George H.W. Bush, who died in November. (AP Photo/John Bazemore, File)

Friday is the 172nd day beyond Carter's 94th birthday, exceeding by one day the lifespan of former President George H.W. Bush, who died Nov. 30 at the age of 94 years, 171 days. Both men were born in 1924: Bush on June 12, Carter on Oct. 1.

The achievement also defies medical odds, coming more than three years after Carter announced he

had melanoma that had spread to his liver and brain. He underwent treatment and received a clean bill of health.

Goes to show, miraculous do happen. Jimmy Carter I've come to believe really does care about people. I hope he has many more years to come.

He was controversial as far as opinions on 'how good a president he was'. Regardless, he has done more for humanity, after holding office, than any combination of ex-prez's (along with the wife, of course). He is our definition of a 'great American' or probably better, a great humanitarian, period.

....and he can still swing a hammer.

About 25 years ago, I was in Plains, Ga. I asked where Jimmy Carter lived, and did they see him often. They said he was just there, and he left on his bike. His home was just up the road on the right. They told me to knock on the door and say "hello". They said he enjoyed seeing people. Everybody in Plains said the same thing. I went to the house and there were no guard towers or anything around the home. Plus the home was a fairly nice, but not overly wealthy place. I just could not knock on a Presidrent's door. I chickened out. Damn, I wish I did.

The best thing about Carter’s presidency was that I was able to buy CD’s with an 18.5% interest rate.

Jimmy is very committed to his religion as a Christian. His devotion to Habitat for Humanity has been a real boost to getting other mostly church members to volunteer to join up.

My wife and I did a one week stint in Tennessee helping with our church group. We built a porch for an old couple whose old one was unusable and also finished another team’s job of painting the inside of a home that was occupied by another older couple and also made and installed a handrail to go down the front porch steps and a wheelchair ramp for the side of the house. This couple had very little food in their cupboards and pantry, so we got some money together between all of us and bought them a gift card to the grocery store just down the street.

always liked him as a good human being but was never sure about how good a president he was compared to the others and what he achieved ?? He obviously wanted to achieve things for USA I 'm sure?
