John Amos (dad on "Good Times")

I saw an interview with actor John Amos on a talk show the other day. Loved it! Some of us remember him as the dad on "Good Times" in the 1970s, but he was also Gordy the weatherman on the "Mary Tyler Moore" show, and Kunta Kinte in "Roots" (his foot was severed mg1: ) He's kept busy over the years - roles in quite a few movies and TV shows - such as "West Wing".

John is 77, still handsome.




(OTOH Jimmie Walker, who played JJ ...."DY-NO-MITE".... has not aged well. He looks terrible.)

He's a good looking man and great actor, always liked him. I agree about JJ, he doesn't look great, looks like he had a rough life.

We never missed an episode of "Good Times". John Amos was our favorite. Sorry but JJ didn't look good even then, poor guy...

We're watching the West Wing series now through Netflix. He only has small, recurring roles, but we like his character.

I checked and saw that Esther Rolle (Florida) was almost 20 yrs older than John. I thought they were about the same age.

I thought the youngest son Michael (played by Ralph Carter) was so cute! Few yrs ago I saw him on a talk show....he was nice looking, but all grown up.

Bernadette Stanis (Thelma) is still an attractive woman.

John is still very much ALIVE. I saw him in an interview couple days ago. (.....no RIP)

Yes, Levar Burton was young Kunte Kinte who was captured and beaten.
John was Kunta as a man.....tried to escape but lost his foot as punishment.​
