Anybody remember the high pitched squeaky voiced weasel of a character that played in darn near every movie when we were kids?

I used to love detesting him

but

The guy knew his art (much like Strother Martin)

I've come to appreciate the character actors most
Somewhat well known, but not really

Oh, yeah. He's one of those actors whose face we knew, but not his name. There was NO mistaking that voice.
The first time I remember seeing him was in a TV series in the early 60's that I can't remember the name of. His line was "Who took my meatball?" My sister & I repeated it over & over for years after that.

I have the whole "The Fugitive" series on DVD. In one episode, he lived with his brother whom he didn't get along with. They hid the fugitive in their house while police were looking for him all over the neighborhood.

In an episode of "Vega$," he played a rare bad guy - a high school principal or counselor who helped another bad guy force girls into prostitution.

Seems I saw him on Perry Mason a few times
He really got around, and capitalized on his not so becoming demeanor

I remember John from The Bob Newhart Show and also he had a small part in a Doris Day/Cary Grant movie "That Touch of Mink".
