Not upset, simply stating what I think of the practice. No reason to get upset. It is simply corporate reality and bottom line numbers. There is no advocating.

Not to mention any other "Non-Traditional" lines of work. I think back on that and it occurs to me that if I was still on the road when the Pandemic hit, the band would have fallen apart. Of course, now days all you need to get rich is a good Camera, even a cell phone camera will do, some popular topic that you can make videos about and a YouTube monetized channel. And the more "Watch-Hours", Likes and Subscriptions you get, the more money you make.-Many blue collar jobs can't be done on a computer, too many to list.
I hope it's a good one. My grandson lives there.
On the other hand, the average starting salary for a software engineer in the United States is over $100k/year. So it all depends on your skills.I found a channel on Youtube that sometimes highlights bad job ads. Boy, what kind of world is it?!?
I have outlined my own experience in this thread, but it's clear listening to these crazy ads, that my world isn't today's world - you know mutual respect, a focus on quality and skills, etc. I'm not suggesting all ads are this way, but just to know this type of thing is going on is just disgusting.
Yeah. That's is egregious! Even during my brief stint in middle management, which I hated, I advocated for my workers. I don't like it when employees are screwed over like that!
Obviously I have no idea what anyone else was thinking @January. Of course I know technology has indeed changed, because I understand and study the technology in order to pick stocks in which I am interested in buying.Obviously - was anyone thinking otherwise ??
Not just blue collar jobs - obviously many jobs cannot be done from home.
was anyone saying they all could be??
I am very impressed by your memory of an exact phone conversation several years ago - but again, not sure what it proves.
Obviously many things were done from home during the pandemic lockdowns that are better done in a non home setting - that was a time of doing the best we could in lockdowns - I dont think anyone is suggesting everything that was done from home or by phone should stay that way.
But that doesn't mean there isn't a place for many jobs to be done at least partly from home - and of course modern technology has made more of this possible.
Not really sure what cherry picking articles from way back in 2004 proves - you dont think technology had change much in the last 20 years??
Because women usually manage the home and kiddos and kiddos change on a daily basis? Why especially for women?
I love a good stereotype.
Because women usually manage the home and kiddos and kiddos change on a daily basis?
It's not a stereotype. It is the truth.I love a good stereotype.
It may be in your circles. There are plenty of SAHDs out there, plenty women being the breadwinner and a lot of couples actually sharing chores and responsibilities. It's not a stereotype. It is the truth.
"Plenty": 10% SAHDsIt may be in your circles. There are plenty of SAHDs out there, plenty women being the breadwinner and a lot of couples actually sharing chores and responsibilities.
Was, may be again. Who knows what life brings? Are you the breadwinner, @Twostep ?
Again - your opinion."Plenty": 10% SAHDsYes and the woman IS the breadwinner many time PLUS she manages the house and kids on top of it. A man seldom does that well.
You must think I live under some rock.
The reason I remember the call, in such detail, is it was so bizarre. I am a woman who raised four children and out of simple empathy it struck me how difficult the other woman's situation was?
It is insulting for you to infer I "cherry picked" those articles, if you are using that term to mean I wanted pick and chose articles to skew information to make me appear to be more learned on the subject than I am on this subject? The reason I looked up research articles on the subject is I saw a variety of good opinions and thoughts I respect. Those inputs here made me want to really delve into the matter.
Couldn't that be plausible to you?
It may be in your circles. There are plenty of SAHDs out there, plenty women being the breadwinner and a lot of couples actually sharing chores and responsibilities.
Do I think you live under a rock??? - I'm not posting what I think about you - personal comments just derail a thread
I think the statement that Blue collar jobs cannot be done from home - was so obvious that I wonder why anyone would say that , did they really think anyone else didnt realise that??
- and yes I think there was cherry picking of articles
Confirmation bias
Since you asked - No It isnt really plausible to me that anyone remembers an exact long conversation, however bizarre, from years ago
You suggested I was cherry picking yet again when in fact, I'd explained earlier I wasn't. You also suggested I was lying about remembering a conversation. You thinly veil insults. In addition, you do those two things, when I in fact took a great deal of time and effort to present both sides of the WFH issue by researching not the internet, but professional journals, @January. So you punish my good deed with insults, suggesting two things that simply are not true. I went to the effort not for me but for others who seem very into this subject, just in case they wanted to look into it more - depending on their own preference - office or WFH.^^ You will have to explain what you mean by this post - not following whatever point you are making about the topic .![]()
You know, you really do come across as a piece of work and stuck in school yard mentality.Don't dish it out if you can't take it.
I have no clue what you call "insults" to you. I don't even know you and am not in the habit of insulting.CooCoo, dear, you spent your whole first time on this site insulting me. You have never made amends, or even tried. You forgot so soon?
