I remember hearing some things but never thought things got that bad for her. I liked her as an actress/comediane but I think she jumped ship on Laugh-In too soon. Yes should would've been type cast for a while but it also would've opened many more doors. Look at the success of Goldie Hawn or Lily Tomlin. It is easy to second guess a decision but I guess at the time it was work and she wasn't even thinking big picture, career etc. I never fault someone for leaving a job they don't like especially if they have other opportunities and means.

I think what made Laugh In work work to some would've been all the costumes changes and pace. That's what made Laugh-In so good an innovative was the pace of the show.
 

Yeah, I recall she's had some problems but didn't know they were that bad. I remember she was Burt Reynolds' first wife. Interesting that (according to the link I posted) he didn't return her call(s) when she needed help, BUT...he apparently had his reasons. Appears they were not friends after the split yet Judy felt burt should have paid her legal bills.
