I shy away from containers of anything that appear to have been damaged or opened.
Most of the things in my apartment have been purchased used or scrounged off the curb over the years.
One of my treasures is a book trough similar to the one pictured that I purchased for $13.00.

I don't go anymore. I would never buy towels, bedding, pants or shoes.
I did get a nice Christmas wreath, a winter jacket, and a set of dishes that seemed brand new; some wine glasses.....

They're called garage sales here.
I've bought linens...as long as they can be washed. Books. Knick knacks for the house. Cook or bakeware.

Anything upholstered, or anything I can't clean thoroughly. A friend of mine brought home bedbugs in a piece of upholstered furniture she bought at such a sale. Cost her a fortune to get rid of those bedbugs.

We don't go to them any longer. We have too much "stuff"!! In fact, I keep threatening to sneak items into other peoples yard sales and leave them behind. :lol:
