Jury duty summons in the mail again

Different states have different age rules. One place I lived it was age 75, in another it was 70. All that was a long time ago for me.

Due to age we both are excused from jury duty. Served once and the case was settled before we were seated.

In Calif.: for some offenses it used to be 18 months, but in 2011 AB 109 was passed by the State in order to lesson the cost of prison operations that had been skyrocketing after the passage of the Three Strikes law in the mid 1990s. One of the goals was to keep lessor offenders from being sent to prison, instead having parole and probation violations serving in the county jails. I retired from the Sheriff's Dept. in 2012, so I didn't witness first hand what the impact was on operations. I heard from a sergeant that was assigned to the sentenced facility(GHRC) that some inmates might be serving as much as 9 years in county jail.
I would think keeping the prisoners in County for so many months or years, it would the County a lot of money. Here in PA, some counties charge the prisoners for their services and meals and they have to make restitution after their release.

In today's mail, finally got my doctor's excuse letter,{made a copy} then mailed it with my letter to the commissioner of jury duty. I asked to have my name removed from future jury lists, will be interested to see if that happens in 5 yrs if I get another jury summons

Here in Ohio, it's not so much the actual duty that bothers us it's the fact of having it hanging over our heads for months on end. My son had to go last month, wasn't selected, came home relieved, now he has another letter saying he must call every week to see if he has to go again -- until January!

Some states allow you to skip state court if you are a certain age, being treated for a some ailments, and other reasons. Check with your county court clerk. In Federal court, you may be dismissed if you are 70 plus or serve on an emergency team or being treated for a certain ailment. In most cases, being dismissed is not difficult.

I'm a happy camper because today in the mail I got a letter from the Erie County Commissioner of Jurors informing me I have been excused from jury duty which was to begin on Tues, 10/10 Sue

The one time I served I was happy to do so because it got me out of work. The waiting to be called was extremely boring, however. Eventually I sat in as an alternate for a petty burglary trial in a college dorm.

I got out of a federal summons once since I had just gotten out of the hospital for a motorcycle accident.

Finally, you can be excused from jury duty if you are past a certain age.
I think here in California it's 70.

I had to have my doctor write my last excuse, since I'll be turning 70 soon.

I wish our justice system would do that...

I am in Texas but once I had gone down with my summons and my doctor's letter, I was excused. I thought at some point I would get another. That was way back in my 40's. I had a form of colitis. They must have removed me from the rolls forever. I count myself lucky!!
