Just downgraded my cable service, got rid of channels

Was not sure whether to put this in Financia, or here. Decided here would do.
I was looking over my cable channel line up, and realized how many of the premium channels I was paying for, and not watching. Those lie HBO and the like.

My TV watching is my entertainment, and do not mind spending my entertainment budget there, Especially, come winter when I do not go out as much. And it seems our one home town movie theater, it seems, has no plans to reopen. I am a bit dissapointed in that, as the theater is just down the street,,,I could walk there.
My plan for the future is to get back to shutting of the TV and reading more as well.

I bit the bullet a few years back and bought a streaming stick. There's so much free content out there to watch. Current news from the major networks is available, as are old movies from the 30's and 40's, which are the movies I prefer.

I've never regretted cutting the cord and find more to watch sans cable...

When we had cable it was very frustrating to try to cut down channels because they were in 'packages' and it seemed like the channels we wanted were spread out to force people to select several packages. I wish we could have selected by channel.
But after my mother died I cancelled all the cable and I only watch Amazon Prime and sometimes free TV, there is a lot to watch if willing to watch commercials. I've come to enjoy the Progressive Insurance commercials about helping people not turn into their parents 'if you printed out instructions to come here today you are in the right place' cracks me up every time, if my printer ink hadn't all dried up I'd probably still be doing that in spite of having a smart phone.

Most cable TV channels are a waste of time and electricity, IMO. Out of the 200+ we get, we seldom watch more than a dozen. I suppose all these "extra" channels help pay for the good channels, so perhaps that is a plus.
Anymore, I spend more time watching shows on my computer, by going to the Discovery, History, etc., web sites, and streaming episodes to my computer....often with far fewer commercials.

I’m content with antenna or AirTV.

It’s funny when I think back to growing up with only 3 channels.

At that time we had what some people refer to as appointment television. We used to run and warm up the television for the evening news or a special weekly program then off it went.

These days I usually have it on most of the day just for the noise.
