I've been taking a small spoonful of Organic Ground Turmeric Root for quite awhile now, it's excellent for inflammation (or prevention of), and so many other benefits such as Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia, Osteoarthritis, R.A., and the list goes on and on, even the liver benefits, anything involved with inflammation. Here are some articles from past threads, and the company I ordered my two bottles from today. They were talking about this last night on a natural health radio show, and the guest has been speaking there for years.

Good info also on his site for anyone interested in stem-cell therapy, expensive, but supposedly very effective if you can afford it.

SB. do you ever get heartburn with those spices? I used turmeric for awhile and experienced a lot of heartburn, so I quit using it. I'm not really certain the two were related, but they seemed to be. Any ideas??

It's never given me heartburn that I've noticed, but I take it in the morning. Maybe if I took it before bed it might.

I take garlic and honey in the morning on an empty stomach. Later followed by a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar... later followed by raw ginger...later followed by tumeric. Then I knock on wood :D

I've done some research on Curcumin for its anti-cancer properties. There are studies and trials going on but nothing is definitive yet. I've heard some promising things. It should be taken with black pepper which contains Peperine because Curcumin isn't easily absorbed by our bodies. Peperine increases the bioavailability. Here's an article that explains a little more about it: http://www.healwithfood.org/articles/black-pepper-boosts-turmeric-effects.php

There are several studies involving Turmeric/Curcumin and cancer. If you do a Google search you'll come up with a bunch of reading on the subject.

I first noticed turmeric in a herbal anti-inflammation product called Zyflamend (http://www.newchapter.com/zyflamend/zyflamend-whole-body). I had pretty good luck with that as an alternative for minor hip pain. I used it for years but stopped because it was pricey and I figured out I could buy the powder and consume it in other ways like in my chicken soup recipe, sprinkle some on my grits and eggs, make a drink with it called 'golden milk' or 'golden tea', etc. Basically learn to use it in a lot of everyday items. I didn't find it to be a heavy duty pain reliever but if it does the job for you it may not have a some dangers that other things seem to have.
