Incredible story of well-deserved street justice. I read the book in one evening "In Broad Daylight" many years ago. I couldn't put it down; I was up all night.

I'll betcha they're not trying very hard to solve this one and who could blame them.
The city paid his wife (who witnessed his murder) a sum, I think around $17,000.00 & that was the end of it. No criminal charges.
It must have been traumatic for her. The author described it in detail - she was sitting next to him in their truck, she heard the rear window shatter, she saw several of her husband's teeth fly across the dashboard, she looked at him & part of his cheek was missing.
Incredibly the autopsy showed that shot (from a 30-30) did NOT kill him. He was a real tough guy. The one that killed him was from a .22 rifle fired on the rooftop of a post office across the street.

Live here in missouri when that took place....guy was a real jerk but can't say he should have been murdered.....but got to look at it too from the view of all the folks he terrorized...imho....
