Know anyone with asperger's ?

Grampa Don

Yep, that's me
I took a short online test for asperger's. It said that a score of 20 or higher probably indicates it. My score was 19, so I guess I'm marginal. I suspected as much. It's probably common among people in technical fields. I think it helped my career. When I get interested in something, I want to know everything about it. And, when I do something, I fret over getting details right. I even re-read my posts several times and edit before posting. I always got good reviews, so my bosses must have been happy.

But, I'm not bad enough that I couldn't work well with people, although I'm not comfortable in crowds. I felt that I was liked, but maybe some thought I was a little odd. I'm no good at small talk. I freeze up. But, one lead man said that I was a person you couldn't get mad at. If I was a kid today, they would probably put me on pills. I'm glad I'm not.

Wouldn't you know, my wife is the exact opposite. How have we stayed together for 60 years?

That was fun, here's my result.

These results indicate that...
you have the same score as most people do when completing this test and probably don’t have an autistic spectrum disorder.

  • Common result
    (8 - 12)
  • Slight tendencies

This test looks at some of the common tendencies experienced by those who an autism spectrum disorder. Your score suggests you experience the same number as most people who complete this test.
Autism is a spectrum disorder which means most of us will experience some of these traits to a lesser or greater degree.

Thanks for the comments. Here is the link to the test.

When my wife and I were kids on the same block, she says she and her friends would call me to come out and play, and I would stay in the house with my microscope. So, she knew what she was getting into. She still hasn't fully figured me out.
I like you just the way you are. Your wife knew what she was doing !

Took a test a few years ago with 20 questions answered 17 in the affirmative. Diagnosed 4 years ago on the spectrum. OCD traits are getting more pronounced as I age. Worked in high tech most of my career (a common trait of asperger). As one comedian put it, 'Aspergers, they are the smart retards'. Learned to live with it when I discovered I didn't need to know all the answers. I now know why I thought different than my friends. Still can't figure out who 'done it' in movies.

I am on the autistic spectrum, officially diagnosed in my forties. I only wish I had known sooner, because it could have saved me a lot of grief. I met my husband at a support group for adults on the spectrum. We both married late in life (he was 55 and I was 51) when we met. I always regret not meeting him sooner, so I could spend more time with him!

I wish that I could attend a support group for it but the nearest one is a 2-hour drive each way.

Sadly, adults on the spectrum find it very difficult to find support groups, because all the focus is on children and adolescents, which leaves adults without much in the way of resources.

I was fortunate to find that support group. The woman who ran it was allowed to use a meeting room at her workplace during her lunch hour, for the group to meet at. And it was only once a month, at that.
