LA City Council Agrees To Olympic Official Budget Demands For 2028 Games

The Los Angeles City Council rushed and voted to approve budget demands for the 2028 Olympic Games deal. Unlike previous Olympics the IOC or International Olympic Committee is making deals/not using a biding process to keep the games going because not too many countries/cites want to host them.

Basically they agreed to absorb or cover cost overruns for the 2028 summer games estimated to cost over 5 BILLION dollars to host.

Personally since the Olympic are not as coveted as in years past they should hold out/force the IOC to cover any and all cost for hosting the games.

Some complaints include the rushed nature of the vote and lack of studying & planning the budget for an event 11 years away. One report had protestors saying similar commitments should be made for the benefit of residents on domestic issues.

I don't live in LA, but I betcha all that money could be put to much better use. To me, it seems the Olympics create more trouble than they are worth.

Most big mega event cause more trouble than there worth since 9/11 especially because of security costs and inconveniences. Setting aside cost the logistics of securing multiple & spread out venues since there is no Olympic Village is the issue.

How will the athletes be secured going to and from venues(saw one report that Olympic wants no more than a 30 minute trip for the athletes) so does that mean the athletes & entourage go convoy style to and from events? That means traffic detours, blocked off roads, limited parking etc. Traffic detours almost always affect local businesses making difficult for customers and employees to get there. Most businesses couldn't take a 3 week hit which will probably be longer because changes go into effect prior and take days to go back to normal.

Also saw reports they are thinking about reserving traffic lanes for Olympic related traffic only. Take out a lane of traffic during rush hour in a tourist area?

I keep on seeing references to how well 1984 went. But that was in different era minus boycotting communist bloc countries.

IOC demands for host city

The IOC or International Olympic Demands a lot of it's host cities and here some of the requirements/mandates that Boston would've had to meet bidding on the 2024 summer games-as was Los Angeles.

Some IOC demands include:

1)No major events one week before, during or one week after the Olympics.

2)IOC gets control over vending and advertising

3)Local Olympic organizing committee can sign off documents/contracts for the city itself

4)Host city will cover cost overruns

5)The Olympic Village must be financed locally or nationally. But the organizing committee controls the design

6) Dedicated traffic lanes for the Olympics

Demands for the 2022 winter games got so ridiculous Oslo Norway dropped out. They included

-7,000 page contract
-car and driver for IOC officials
-Dedicated traffic lanes for the Olympics
-Priority to Olympic traffic
-IOC officials must be greeted with a smile
-Hotel bars must stay open late and serve Coca Cola products only
-All furniture must have an Olympic appearance
-Local schools should be closed and residents take vacations during Olympics(Is the IOC paying)

One must wonder what's in the LA 2028 contract.
