Laptop issues with mouse

Yesterday I was having response issues with my web access. Mouse was hesitant & hardly moving. Finally realized my laptop was beginning to look like a patient on life support. So many wires hanging of each side, something had to give. I started blaming my wife/modem/mouse batteries anything & everything I could. Swallowing my pride I started by removing the extra storage devices along with the cables.

Deleting unused apps & adhered to the KISS method. I have a very limited need for all the unnecessary tracking & security that I've installed over time. I don't need to worry about hacking & even if I did who really cares? I don't, I watch all my accounts daily & decided I'm too paranoid. So after cleaning up my area & following the 10 rules of computing I can now rest easy. At my age, come and get me!

My rules: No special order.

1. Save & save often.
2. Make copies for backup.
3. Do updates.
4. Keep everything organized.
5. K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple stupid).
6. Be respectable of others.
7. Clear history & trash.
8. No food - drinks.
9. Keep area clean.
10. LOGOFF!

I moved on to my closet area and cleaned that up. All in all things seem to be running much more smoothly. Maybe my ISP provider is to blame.

NOTED: I normally use Manjaro Cinnamon but still as a precaution keep both Mint Cinnamon & a copy of Debian Mint on my Ventoy USB stick as backups. Totally sold on Linux, been an advocate & user since the late 1990's. Started with SUSE & the fore runner to 'Gnoppix' - 'Knoppix'.

I hope all is resolved. Don't know what that means about all the wires hanging off both sides. Here's hoping you didn't uninstall any security you need.

When I had a wired mouse and it acted up, it was inexpensive to replace and that solved the problem. Now that I have a battery operated mouse, I can expect to have to change it every 3 months on the average, but you indicated you already checked the batteries.

From time to time, I need to power off my modem/router or it can act up and I get slow speeds. Powering it off 60 seconds, then back on has helped. I sometimes do a restart to my laptop at the same time.

Don't do very well with my touch pad, like a mouse, easier on the spelling mistakes. I had 2 large external HD's plus 2 X 4 way USB hubs one attached on each side. I normally reinstall my Linux OS when things get in the way. Yes, everything is running smoothly, only had the 2 recommended anti-tracking apps anyway. It was more of a reset overall that solved the problems.

Every once in a while CenturyLink takes it upon themselves to reset the servers without warning. Hence blame the service, they got broad shoulders. I do normally reset my modem every Monday morn anyway, and I didn't have to reinstall my OS. So whatever was wrong worked itself out after all.

When doing my initial device manage setup one of the 1st things I disable is my touch pad. Thanks @Capt Lightning
