Large earthquake in the Napa Valley this morning...

About 60 miles from us. Our county got shaken pretty good from what I`m reading on Facebook but neither dh or I felt a thing. Went to a wine/food tasting last night-the wine must have kicked in good and we slept right through it lol. My son in law is on the way there right now to help restore power. He and my grandson,as well as my youngest daughter and her family were just there yesterday for a football scrimmage so they just missed it by a few hours. Fair number of injuries in this one-a couple of them critical. I think the last count was 89 injuries. My best friend lives there so I called her as soon as I woke up and heard. She and her daughter are fine but their pets are pretty freaked out. They did have lots of things break that fell off of shelves.

Whatsisname, the Father of My Children emailed and said they slept through it, too, and our DS' urn is still resting comfortably on his bookshelf. Whatsisname was dismayed to see water gushing from the streets and fire hydrants because nowhere in California can they spare a drop of water.

OH Lordy Mrs Robinson, thank goodness your friend and your family are safe.

Poor people who have been injured. I'm very pleased that earthquakes here in the UK are extremely rare and when they do hit they are usually only slight tremors.

Can't imagine what it would be like to have a earthquake.Or for that matter a hurricane.I feel so sorry for the people that have to endure them.

I heard about the earthquake, I'm sure all the pets and animals were freaked, they usually know things before the people do. Glad to hear that you and yours are safe Mrs. R. :love_heart:

I've seen damaged/burning buildings on the news and the things I've seen and read online keep looking worse and worse. Oh, my...and the injured now up to around 130?

Mrs. Robinson, Whatsisname lives way out in the country and rarely goes into town except for doctors' appointments. Have you been out and about and seen any physical damage there or is Lakeport far enough away from it that there was none?

No damage here in Lakeport but there certainly is a lot in Napa from what I`m seeing on the news. Just saw that all the windows blew out at the Napa Airport control tower so they will be out of commission for several weeks while new glass is manufactured and installed. Of course,as we all learned after the Loma Prieta earthquake in `89,the media does sensationalize everything. Back then,if you watched the news, you`d have thought all of San Francisco was on fire and all of the buildings had collapsed. Most of us were just fine. A little shaken maybe, but fine.

And so far,the only person I`ve talked to that felt it here in our county,is my granddaughter in law and that was only because their dog Buddee woke up and started acting weird about a minute before,so that woke her up.

So glad you and your family are safe...I hope the animals will feel secure again soon. Thank you, Mrs. R, for your reports. Take the best of care.

A year and a half in Paso Robles, CA, never felt a thing.

You were in Paso Robles a little too soon. My sister lives down that way now and the past few years they have had numerous quakes. Nothing really big but big enough to get everyone`s attention!

I live further north in California. My home town is Santa Cruz. I remember some rollers and jolts. Always scary and always a concern for those effected. Whatever the disaster.

For Santa Cruz the San Andreas fault is just over the hill under San Jose going north and south. I lived in San Jose for many years and really don't remember them even when they were over 4 and some a little higher. There were even some that created damage to homes and buildings. I don't know of any that are under Santa Cruz, might be some of the shorter side branches.

We were living in Colorado during the Loma Prieta quack.

No I sure wasn't. I left Santa Cruz in 1985. I can't even imagine going through that one.

I was back a couple of years after. It was sad to see the old court house (Cooper House) gone. I really don't plan to ever return to Santa Cruz again though.
