Largest Sports Contract In History-430 MILLION Dollars for 12 Years

The sport itself is doing what the baseball card market did in the 90s when it started catering to the hard core collectors going to higher priced cards taking future collectors out of the market. It's a niche hobby now because of the cost in the 90s.

Same thing is going to happen to the sport/teams itself. Somebody is going to have to pay for that wether it's ticket paying fan or tv subscriber. If younger or casual fans can't watch or participate in the sport in any fashion due to cost they will lose interest and when they do have money it won't be spent on baseball among other sport or events. Even the tv packages are pricing people out of cable with cord cutting increasing every year.

Who is going to pay, attendance at major league games is declining already, throw in declining tv subscribers professional sports will turn itself into a niche endeavor.

In my opinion, our value system is messed up. The highest paid professions should be school teachers, policemen, firemen instead of sports and entertainment figures.

I'm all for free market and wouldn't deny this money but 'professional' sports has the caveat of taxpayers funding their playgrounds and frequently the police and security required for crowds and traffic-entire neighborhoods affected in less than positive way. This is where it really gets contorted or misplaced.

But the sheeple fans and bandwagon jumpers pay for these numbers by attending, watching or buying paraphernalia. The paying fan propels this stuff. I guarantee the big ego owners frequently respond to the social media and talk radio mobs as well. With some players and issues the fanbase all but demands a course of action. I've seen or heard this in any city I lived in. Too many live life vicariously through their local team.

It doesn't matter to me how much they make....none of my money will go towards their bloated salaries. It's been decades since I've attended a baseball/football game, and on the rare occasions when I tune in to one on the TV, I usually wind up taking a good nap after about 15 minutes of watching.
