Latest experience with Spectrum....

I had been threatening to cut the cable for years but my husband love to watch NASCAR so we kept cable, which is Spectrum in my area.

When he died in October, one of the first things I did was call Spectrum to cancel tv service but keep internet. At the time, we were paying $134/mo. for about 8 channels of tv and internet. So, when I called to cancel the tv and just keep the internet, the guy told me internet would be $90/month. WHAT??

He said the better option would be to get the new Xumo box that gets 300 channels, it would be free (ya, right) and my bill would be $89. My brain is still in a fog after my husband's sudden death, so I agreed to it. They sent me the box and I hooked it up yesterday. It's nothing more than a glorified Roku, which I already use! Now, what do I do??? I probably won't even use Xumo. I could care less about tv programming and have been using Roku for years for movies and youtube.

Sure, I'm saving about $50/month, but I think it's a total rip because after a year, they charge you $5/month for the box or you can buy it for $60. What am I missing??

They take over the TV and run their diagnostics
Once done, they tell me to shut off and restart the TV

All good

Now, Verizon......don't get me started

How do you manage to get a rate of $100/month??? So, you don't have tv service with them? I don't even have phone service with them and only had 8 channels for tv and 300 mbps internet for $134/month. Isn't that terrible???
 
I am happy with Spectrum so far. I have had them ever since I moved here five years ago. I have internet only and my payment was $19.99 and this past summer they raised it to $24.99. I have never had a problem with them. My son has them also, internet and digital telephone and his bill was also raised this year from $39.99 to $44.99.

Got weary of paying Verizon $300/mo for crap service

Went to an antenna for TV
Terrible

Got with an independent service rep
Told him everything we wanted/needed
and everything we didn't want (like HBO and such)
Mainly very basic service

I gave him a free hand in setting things up after I bought what he recommended

Had to upgrade our iPhone ($750) for their service to work

Never happier with internet (super fast)
 
If you are low-income, many places have an almost free internet service. Each company decides what qualifies for this service, so some companies allow seniors, and some companies allow families with school-age children. Here is a website that goes through many of the different companies, and you can see what options there are for wherever you live.
Many also offer a really cheap laptop for around $100, if a person wants that.

I must live in an alternate universe. My internet only, with a $30 discount from the FCC Affordable Connectivity Program, is $80 a month. It goes up about every 6 months. I've heard the "powers that be" are considering doing away with the FCC program. If they do, my bill for internet only will be over $100. Outrageous.

Do you really get 300 channels for free? Are there channels you don't get from the various platforms accessible using Roku? Unless you are under contract (which I hope you aren't), you should be able to cancel that feature once they start charging you.

No contract with Spectrum. I have no idea about getting 300 channels. I could care less because I don't watch any tv programs. If they're referring to streaming channels, I already get Netflix and Prime and Disney+ (for now). The only reason I agreed to their Xumo box was because I wanted to cut the cable for tv and keep internet, but my internet would have gone up from $55/mo. to $80/mo. If I cancel after a year the internet will go back up to $80/month. There's no other internet provider in my area except Verizon, and I don't want to go that route because it's more expensive than Spectrum.

I'm going to apply for the FCC discount but I don't have a deposit from SS yet to show what my income will be.

I also have Spectrum for internet only and waiting (impatiently) for fiber optic in my area so I can finally give Spectrum the old heave ho.

Wow - we have basic cable, internet and phone with Spectrum and our bill was reasonable when we started - 6 years ago - at $113/month . NOW we pay $243 and change! YIKES! We have talked about giving them up for the past year but we still watch a lot of broadcast TV, local sports, plus some streaming. We're not sure what to do except make some major changes when we move again (in about 2 years) to that retirement castle we've planned on.
 
I have had Spectrum for about a year and a half with no issues what so ever ... so far.
Prior to that, I had DSL from Centurylink and had issues all the time, especially in rainy weather.
Went from 25mbps to 300+mbps and at a lower cost.

I have the FCC discount and during the Spectrum promo, Internet, phone and router rental was $39.95
Now after the promo, I'm paying $59.98. I could save $5 a month if I provide my own router.

Have an antenna for local broadcast channels and get all major networks except PBS.
ROKU provides all streaming options. Only thing I subscribe to is Amazon Prime.

Every single day via email and often in snail mail, I receive Spectrum offers for the Xumo and what ever else TV and cell service.
I just ignore all the spam. And thankfully I haven't had to deal with Spectrum customer service for anything.
