A jury decided Led Zepplin did not steal "Stairway to Heaven"

This is the Spirit song in question, I played it a few times and I hear a similarity but not close enough for a full lawsuit. Fun fact- I remember as a teen having a crush on their drummer. It felt weird though, I was about fifteen and he was about forty.

I love that Led Zepplin song and even if they hadn't written that riff or whatever it is, I'd still love that song because they played it and sang it and those were the sounds that are part of my wild years and bring back so many feelings and memories. Crazy memories ;) that even the kids will never hear of! My secret to the grave.

Debby,

you can tell us, we as a group are sworn not to divulge 60s secrets to the kids(anyone under 50). ;)

Have you ever noticed that most songs of a given era have note sequences that sound the same? It's amazing there aren't more law suits.

Interesting I read the other day about the Ghostbusters theme song. If you know Huey Lewis..." I Want a New Drug". They ruled in favor of Lewis and listening to both tunes...almost an exact match. But with this I think Cookie is right. Spirit was fairly popular, but nowhere near a super group. I'm sure money was the main objective.

Well, toying with the idea of 'curling hair' here........but on second thought, nope, fun for me to remember but maybe embarrassing to relate:playful: and one of those things where you can say, "You had to have been there to understand".

To be honest I don't care. One of the most over played songs on top 40 rock radio ever. Can't stand it. It doesn't bring tears to my eyes other than the pain of oh no not again. Payola rocked, not the song.

I think it depends on musical taste and how old one was at the time. I was 14 in 1976 so some of those tunes were anthems to that generation. They might have been top forty and overplayed but such memories. If you're in a public space and " Stairway to Heaven" or "Smoke on the Water" come on the PA system and you see people start to sway or sing along, maybe pull out their secret air guitars...it's magical.

It wasn't my favorite song. I never considered it magical, but by then I was in my mid twenties. Some of the rockers were so drugged up I had no desire to listen to anything they had to sing. Some of them looked like they seriously needed baths. I liked soft rock.
