What is the longest span of time you have remained an active member of a forum?

Did you leave, and why?

I am still a member of a forum I joined 15 years ago... and another I joined 6 years ago. I'm a member of several other forums too...most of which I rarely post on, this one is my favourite tho':)

15 years....the forum is still open but nowdays we have a group page on Facebook. There's only seven of us and I love them dearly.

It appears, the way my wife peruses F.B., that those pursuits are more universally desirable than talk forum participation. They seem to have a limitation means on who can see what. I have not attempted to understand the differences. She seems happy not participating in forums, while I seem (seem, mind you!) to be happy participating only in forums. imp

I only belong to a couple of other forums, the longest was around 6 years and I'm still a member, don't plan to leave. Joined here soon after it started and liked it very much, around 3 years now, plan to stay as long as I'm able to use a computer. Never did care to join facebook or twitter, or any other social media.

I belonged to an American expat forum for about 5 or 6 years. A group of us all left at the same time as the group owner was becoming intolerable. I made several lifelong friends on that forum.

I was on Eons, a baby boomer forum from 2006 to 2011 or 12? when they just disappeared one day without warning. They had gone broke.

I've been on FB since 2008. You choose your friends and who can see what. Lots of my family on it. I'm also on several FB groups.

Joined my first forum in 1996 (Stop & Say Hello, anyone remember it?) but the longest current one is 2002.

Forums have usually left me rather than the other way around, i.e. they have ceased. Only ever left one forum, where the moderator released my real name into the general domain, not accidentally but quite deliberately for a petty reason.

i joined SF in November last year , I was previously a member of a recipe site/ Forum for a few months, in 2013 ..The forum was closed down due to disharmony

The first "forum" I was ever on was The Well, back in the late '80's, more of a BBS than a true forum but still a great intro to online communication. I was there for over 15 years but eventually lost interest when it began to change its "tone".

I'm an active member of 4 forums in addition to SF - one for 10 yrs, one for 6 yrs, and the other two for about 3 yrs. Two of them I only look at a couple times a week; don't post that much but still find them interesting.

First forum/group was late in the late 90's. Long defunct. Longest still functioning (barely) is 10 years. Am also on several art forums/groups and a Italo-American one. Facebook....to keep in touch with family and long term friends.

My first 'forum' was a BBS on alternative religions around 1995 or 96. Then in 1997 I joined an Ireland group on Yahoo.

I was going to say, re: some forums I've been a member of the longest, but it looks like they've disappeared since my last visits.
There were some really nice forums on ezboard, then it became Yuku- the new format made it difficult to find anything- but when I checked just now it seems it's turned into a mobile-only platform... :(

Around two years is my average attention span. I might hang around for longer than that, but around two years is when the interest starts to lag and the posting slows down.

Of course, there are others that don't even last that long for various reasons, but after two years or so, I find that there isn't much I can say that I haven't said before.

I've lost count of the number of forums I have joined over the years.

I have never actually 'left' any of them, just don't post anymore.

Me too leonie, joined loads of forums over the years .....I posted at the top of this thread back in 2015 , and I still post on those same forums I mentioned earlier in this thread..although much less often currently ..but like you I do lose interest after a couple of years if things start to get samey and I get bored, ... and I just stop posting either for a eriod of time, or just never go back, ..

Seven years and counting.

I usually abandon forums that don't have fresh content or that have been overtaken by bullies that drive out any new folks in the first couple of weeks.

It's kind of creepy when you enter an almost abandoned forum, makes me think of a ghost ship that has been floating through time and space.

Forums are no longer relevant, many have disappeared, most will be gone within 5 years.
