Wales' major sports teams warn of 'real risk of bankruptcy' as Welsh Government locks fans out of stadiums
The letter has been co-signed by major sporting organisations in Wales and calls for the Welsh Government to reconsider their stance on fans in stadiums Top-level sport in Wales faces a "real risk of bankruptcy" because of the Welsh Government's refusal to allow fans back into stadiums, according to a joint open letter penned by executives and senior representatives of rugby, cricket, horse racing and football organisations.

In it, organisations including the WRU, Cardiff City, Swansea City and Glamorgan Cricket Club accuse the Welsh Government of adopting an "entrenched position" on the issue, and say they were left "extremely disappointed by the lack of prior consultation" ahead of a meeting in November to discuss the potential return of fans.

The letter, written by Cardiff City executive director Steve Borley, is co-signed by representatives from the Welsh Rugby Union, Football Association of Wales, all four Welsh rugby regions, Swansea City, Wrexham FC, Glamorgan Cricket Club, the Cardiff Devils and the three major racecourses in Wales.

The lengthy letter is written with the aim of seeing sports fans return to stadiums in Wales swiftly as clubs struggle to survive the financial impact of their absence.

The organisations call on the Welsh Government to 'commit to transparency on the science' behind their decision to freeze fans out as they return to venues in England. They also demand that the government engage in a collaborative approach to the safe return of fans.

In England, grounds that are in areas of a Tier One lockdown are allowed up to 4,000 fans in the stadium and grounds in Tier Two can have up to 2,000 supporters.
