I think illness is so serious, you should always feel free to chat with others. Many of us older people have had enormous experience with health problems. And it is not like we have professional advice. But we do remember the professional advice given us by our own doctors. So, I think there is merit in sharing things.
Generally, a couple of points.
If you are worried about a doctor's opinion...definitely seek a second. Your intuition may be right on.
My wife was prescribed a medication that was in the penicillin family. Got enormously ill, close to death. And many health problems ever since.
So, always be cautious. If you feel something is not right, get in there and find out what is going on.
Today, doctors are playing fast and loose with basic medical paradigms.
Some of these doctors are just looking at your chart for a couple of minutes, before they see you, a couple of times per year. You cannot properly assess a scientific or medical issue, with that little review. So, you know, if you are worried, ask questions, get an opinion from another doctor...etc. etc. etc.
My wife just started on over the counter medication for some of her serious pulmonary problems. It just occurred to me for her to try it. Of course, we first checked with the doctor. He said it was fine. And that is fine, that I figured out something to help my wife. But here's the problem. How come the five doctors who have been working with her for the last five years...never thought of that simple thing? Well, my guess would be, they just aren't spending enough time with each patient, really reviewing the details and nuances of what is going on.
So, you know, do research. Read. Ask questions...all of that.
