Could we have LIMITLESS energy in just 10 years? World's first commercial fusion reactor could be ready by 2027

  • The reactor can hold plasma steady at 18 million°F for 11.5 milliseconds
  • Team says it soon hopes to achieve a ten-fold increase in temperature
  • The firm needs to achieve 5.4 billion°F for a fusion reaction to take place
  • Could pave way for fusion power and end world's reliance on fossil fuels

Maybe too late for most of us, but something to respond with when people challenge the assertion that the UN studies have said that we have to get off fossil fuels by 2100. My mom is one of those and is always arguing against that as though she figures that intellectual abilities and R & D stopped when the combustion engine was invented:).

Being able to harness and sustain Fusion Reaction would be the ultimate answer to global energy needs. I'm sure it will eventually be possible, but it is probably one of the most complex challenges Science and Engineering have ever attempted. An ideal energy system would be unlimited electricity from Fusion, and perhaps hydrogen power for vehicles. Both would be sustainable with little or no impact to the environment.
