Local Amber Alert Here

Everybody's cell phone went off in church yesterday and someone announced it was an Amber Alert. Today it's all over the news. A 9 year old girl went for a bike ride while her family was camping in the Adirondacks. She didn't come back in a reasonable time, so a search was started. Her abandoned bike was found along a trail.

I was at work yesterday at the nursing home yesterday. All the phones of the residents and staff went off at the same time. I ddn't know what the hell was happening.

I don't know how NY state handles a Amber Alert, but here in Canada the alert not only hits all mobile devices, but it also cuts in to all radio and TV broadcasts for about 4 minutes each time by over riding the sound track, with a loud sound alert and flashing red screen messages, and it is repeated every 30 minutes for at least 6 hours. It can be either Province wide or National in scope. JImB.
 
Just think if this happened in Ukraine. I was going to print the number of missing children that I remember hearing from when I was working at the Pentagon, but then after I thought about it. I thought it may begin a whole new conversation. Ah, the heck with it. We’re all grown ups and can handle some bad news, so here goes——-60,000 children are missing in Ukraine and no, Russia hasn’t stolen all of them. That loud shrieking sound wouldn’t stop for weeks. Whew!

One of the other bachelors that worked at the Pentagon, but was about 20 years younger said if they were missing 60,000 women, he would volunteer to help hunt for them. There’s about half as many women missing as there are children. I wonder if they blow a siren for missing women? (I thought we needed a little humor today.)

I’m not sure to what extent we go to. I know cellphones, TV’s and radios are all interrupted. We also have over hanging signs on all the major highways to announce Amber Alerts, Silver Alerts, Prisoner Alert and Blue Alerts for when a police officer has been killed.

Yeah I forgot to mention the Ontario Ministry of Transportation's 400 series highway sign system is involved for Ambers. The Toronto Transit systems buses, streetcars, and subway cars all have electric sign boards inside that carry the Amber messages too. JimB.
 
FOUND. The girl was found locked in a closet in a camper van on private property in the area near the State park where she went missing. A man has been arrested. His fingerprints were found on a note that was left in the mailbox of the camp site where her family were staying at the State Park. He was traced because his fingerprints were on file from a 1998 conviction. The girl was described by Police as being in good health, and uninjured. Link.

60,000 children missing? How does that happen? The Russians are stealing or kidnapping them? Why?
