Local Hardware No Longer Has am Equipment Rental Service

They used to rent equipment and I was thinking about renting a mower for the summer. I looked on their Web page but didn't see that service listed. I had to call and whomever answered said they discontinued rentals a few years ago because people were breaking things and not owning up to it, or moving away and not returning equipment. So there....more jerks ruining it for everyone else.

There are probably places that rent (hire out) equipment, but not very close by. One disadvantage of living in the boondocks - having to make a long trip to get some things.
as you probably know I live in arural area myself so nothing is on my doorstep... however we're fortunate that this country is much smaller than the US.. and when we have to travel to get anything it's usually only within the next 10 or 20 miles..

I just went on an online search for other rental businesses. The next closest is about 12 miles away, bust a search for lawn mower didn't reveal they don't have any. They have seeders, rollers edgers, etc. but no mowers:

yes my nearest hire centre is about the same distance.. I think they have mowers Deb, they just don't have a picture of them possibly.. ''image coming soon'..give them a call..

I guess I am confused, I thought you used a lawn service.I bought a new mower this year but my son cuts my grass. The last mower I purchased lasted about 12 years.

I am using a lawn sevice at the present, but the cost has risen so much, I could buy a mower for what they charge for coming 3 times.

Advantages of a lawn service - they do the work and are responsible for their equipment maintenance.

Disadvantages - I am at their mercy of when they can come, I have no control of the quality of work, expensive in the long run

When I lived on the farm I loved using the push mower. I was young then, I guess it might not be as fun now.

I understand, if my son could not do it I would have to hire a lawn service. I always did the yard work when my husband was alive, he worked so much. My health and strength are just no longer up to the task,

Home depot has a rental, but the cost is prohibitive - almost $600 to rent for a month! I might as well buy it.

That site shows $47.00 a day. Considering you pay $65.00 every two weeks you are getting a bargain.

$47.00 plus your time & gas to get & return , cut the lawn in time to limit use to one day. Toss in clean up & dispose of cutting.

The only benefits I can think of would be the amount of exercise you would get loading & unloading the mower when you got the mower to your home & of course the actual effort used in mowing your lawn.

Deducting $3.00 for gas round trip you would be saving $15.00 Somehow trying to save money by renting just doesn't seem the right thing to do.

I cut my own grass back and front... the mower owes me nothing. I bought it years ago.....my neighbour is 86 she pays for a gardener..he comes every other Tuesday and charges £80....£160 per month... unless I was disabled there's no way on this earth I'd pay that much money to have the grass cut.. and especially on the little bit of land she has...

Deb did mention a riding mower being used. The pictures she shows of her property are level & open. If it were me I'd look at that as a long term investment & one with a bagger attachment.
