Local TV Shows

When I was a kid, there was a slew of locally produced TV shows, especially aimed at children, although there were others such as talk, music and cooking. Are there any local stations these days that produce anything but news programs?

I remember those kind of shows, too. I do not think they are out there any more, unless there are community access channels or something. I liked some of the local kids shows too. We had a couple that came out of Buffalo that were fun to watch.

Not sure why we do not see them any more.

Too expensive to produce compared with showing syndicated Seinfeld episodes. A few I remember - "The Freddie Freihoffer Show" which was sponsored by a regional bakery who subtly promoted their products on the program, "Satellite 6" that aired Felix the Cat cartoons between live segments hosted by Glendora and "The Good Ship News" with Commander Ralph. Also more adult orientated shows like "The Earl Pudney Show" where jazz and contemporary music was played in a 15 minute segment and "Home Fair" where cooking and household tips were expounded.

I know someone grew up in Arizona if they know about the Wallace and Ladmo Show. It ran from the late 50's-mid 80's. The genius of the show was that the humor was aimed at both the kids and at the adults. It was silly, fun, but sometimes very serious.

We have one local show that I know of on CBS at 9 am weekdays, Josh and Marie Cribbs. I've watched it and shut it off as they bored me to death.
