Local YMCA open for Lap Swim

I enjoy swimming, more so I enjoy being in the water. That's one reason I took up open water scuba training. I have two more classes out seven classes total for PADI (professional Association of Diving Instructors) Open Water training course.

Maybe somebody can help me out here? Do you have to be a certified diver to rent diving equipment? I have a BCD, fins, mask/snorkel etc but not a regulator nor air supply that I hope to rent. If I can rent air cylinders, I would buy an octopus regulator system.

I hope my wife agrees to travel with me to exotic clear water locations, I wouldn't go without her. There are some freshwater diving locations in the Northeastern USA, but none I am aware of as having exceptional visibility like salt water diving.

There is one health factor that might deter me from open water diving classification, I have an old foot injury that may count against me as a performance issue. Who knows, I will find out soon enough. The other option is scuba diver certification with more restrictions than Open Water Certification of which I am in training now.

I was a year round lap swimmer until the last couple of years and congrats for getting into scuba! I had a class & a couple of not very deep dives many years ago. With late DH & guide. One was in the kelp forest off Santa Catalina. One place I know of for fresh water dives is the Blue Hole, Santa Rosa NM. Google it for some great info and pix. You could probably call the equipment renters and see what they require or see if there are any diving clubs anywhere accessible to you.
