Log Cabin

Reminds me of Lincoln Logs

We had a ball building log homes with Lincoln Logs when I was growing up.

IMO toys such as those allowed a child to express their creativity more, and be more imaginative, it allowed a child to dream of what their home would be like.

IMO the old toys of yesteryear were healthier for children than today's electronic this and electronic that.

That was also true of Lego. When I was a kid, Lego was packaged in a sort of round tube with a screw on top. There were probably other package types too, but that is what I saw most frequently. It was a general selection of parts with a couple of windows and a door so you could make a house, but it was designed to make pretty much anything you wanted. When I have seen the Lego store at the Mall of America, what I see are essentially model kits made for Lego so that each kit builds something specific such as a Star Trek space ship or a tank or an airplane of a specific type.

Gosh, what a walk down memory lane. :)

Yes, the old Legos in a cylindrical tube! That is exactly how I remember them. We messed around with Legos for hours at a time, and I remember my baby brother having a Mechanix Set (think that's what it was called), anyhow, it had girder looking steel pieces with all sorts of holes in them, wheels, gears, screws, nuts, bolts, and whole gamut of things that a little boy could piece together to make something out of.

IMO, far more productive and interactive than sitting in a chair pressing keys and buttons.

The thing about the older generation of toys, they never got old, and they were made so well, a lot of things could be passed down from generation to generation. Buy it once and enjoy it for years and years to come.

Gosh, let me go back to the 60's and 70's!

I had the Lincoln Logs

But I most enjoyed the little bricks
Seems there was Elgo before Lego (I haven't researched it just yet)

There were huge kits

And there were small tubes

Poor kids got the small tubes

I didn't have any

but

I had friends.....
What a hit those must have been!

I can't say I've ever seen such before, but wow, so neat-O.

It was an era... a time, when children truly were children, a time when children learned how to play, how to share, and how to interact with one another.

No small wonder why I miss the past so much.

I don't recall the Mechanix set, but what you describe sounds like a description of the Erector Set that my older brother had.

I don't remember those Elgo American Plastic Bricks, but it makes sense that Lego wasn't the first. Somebody had to be first though. :)

You may be right, Tony, been so many years I just can't remember, but this does look very familiar.

Wonderful memories...

There could very well also be a Mechanix set, since Lego was preceded by Elgo. There always must be somebody who did it first and then the followers come along. So, that begs the question here: Who's on first? :)
