Looking for a doctor...again....

In August, I was informed that my doctor of many years was retiring and I'd need to pick another physician. After calling every office in the practice (large multi-location practice that's part of the hospital system I used for work for) and being told that none of them were accepting new patients, I finally ended up with a doctor new to the practice.

I went for my annual physical with her in October and she was very pleasant, but I couldn't understand half of what she was saying because of her heavy accent. I had to ask over and over again, "What was that again?" Also, she repeatedly messed up on renewing my prescriptions even though I handed her a neatly typed list of what I was currently taking and the dosages (also all this is in my patient file with the practice so there was no reason to mess up).

Today, I get a letter. She's no longer with the practice and they're assigning me to a APRN 22 miles away in another town. Uh, no.

So, tomorrow starts another search. Practically every doctor in town is now associated with the practices of one or another of the two major hospital systems. Apparently it's very difficult these days to practice on your own. I'd prefer to stay with my hospital's practice but I wouldn't be averse to switching horses.

Just venting.

I understand your frustration. We had to look for new primary docs when we moved. Luckily, when the doc we switched to moved, all of his patients were taken over by others in the practice until they hired a nurse practitioner. We went with her & have been happy. Hope you find someone close for your primary.

A few of the specialists we see are about 20-25 miles away & we like them & don't want to switch.

Gosh, that is very frustrating and difficult, @jujube

I hope you can happen to find one, soon, and preferably in the same system you've been in and worked at, too.
We have the same type of difficulties in my area, which seems surprising to me, with 2 large hospitals and plenty of medical offices; yet so many are not taking "new patients" while many doctors continue to move to other States, or to retire. Difficult to comprehend it.

it is like to a blind date and trying to get married....they really dont like you if your a good internet reschearcher and facuci critic....meanwhile.. who knows what is going on with their health.?.....mental emotional and physical.....I am not so sure we are not better off, critical care for critical care for me. and most of us dont really need the scripts that seem to have more dangerious side effects than maybe high ldl they use as an excuse to push it.....and the good ones have gotten out....seems anyway-

I stopped taking the cholesterol a long time ago, take fiber powder in my coffee & try to eat better. It hasn't been any worse yet.
