Lost in Youtube! Does this also happen to you?

Sometimes it happens to me, that I'm looking on Youtube for videos on a special topic. I find one video, start to watch it and get a lot of suggestions for other videos on the same or similar topics by Youtube. Then I open several new browser tabs and watch here and there. Today this happened again. I'm sitting now for several hours in front of the monitor and watched quite a dozen videos wholly or partially. What about you?

It's not only YouTube. I think that's the way AI works. Every time I stream a movie, I get a bunch of suggestions that "you may also like...", Music also. If I ask Alexa to play a particular song which happens to be an Irish folk song, I get a suggestion that I may also like other Irish folk songs, such as,,,

I find it faintly ridiculous, even if once in a while they come up with a good suggestion. People are more complicated than that. The fact that I liked one sci-fi movie doesn't mean that I'm madly in love with sci-fi. I think the AI "brains" aren't sophisticated enough yet to know that.

I never lose a partially o rfully watched video because it's in my youtube history. Have you tried using your history tab to find where you were and what you had seen?

I sometimes disable YouTube for a couple of weeks, even up to a month as it can be a bit addictive. I aso have history switched off on my yt settings and also set the playback quality fairly low so as not to waste data. YT seems like a necessary evil but I don't like it to have to much of a hold.

100%!

I don't like platform AI summing me up after one video or a movie. Sometimes I have a one-off moment and watch something I'm not sure about, just out of curiosity, and the platform will decide I'm LGBT, or ultra-conservative, or a professional dog groomer. It's stupid.

Very very easy to go down the Rabbit hole of Youtbe if you're not careful.. however eventually YT only ever shows you Videos of what it THINKS you want to see.. and it's basically the same theme over and over. if you watch YT on a friends' computer or one in the library for example, you'll get very different videos offered up to you...

Yes, one thing leads to another, and it's easy to get swallowed up on YouTube. I've found a lot of both useful and useless information. I'll allow myself to get distracted from the reason I went there, but then, after a while, I'll get back to my aim.
