I may be dreaming, but I think that I heard on the radio that someone in South Carolina won a $1.5 billion dollar lottery that netted that person $880 million.

If that’s true, wow! Does anyone need that much money?

Its true and I hope that person puts the money to good use. Personally I have no need for larger houses, etc. But I would use the money to help people and causes that needed it.

Does anyone need that much money? There is 340,000,000 people in the U.S. How about giving each of us $1 million and they keep the rest? Wouldn’t that be nice?

Check your math.....340,000,000 people times 1,000,000 equals $340,000,000,000,000....that is trillions....or almost 15 times the total U.S. National Debt, After Federal and State taxes, that person should net somewhere around 450 million....still more than enough for anyone.

No mystery that wasting that taxed money will happen. Googling government waste of taxes produces a nice list.

But I'm sure I could be happy with the remaining 880 million. Family comfort for the rest of their lives a priority. Next to mirror the life style Warren Buffet lives.

DUH!! That’s what happens when I’m talking on the phone and typing at the same time. I wasn’t thinking.

Glad there is an edit feature on this forum. I fixed the post and was able to rid it of the wrong information. Good catch.

Getting back to the $880 mil, I would really have fun giving a lot of good people and organizations some money.

I would certainly be giving most of it away and of course, invest some of it. My main concern would be trying to keep it quiet. I don't think your life can ever be the same once people know you won a large lottery. I think I'd have to hire body guards for all of my grandchildren. In California if you are the top winner you can't be anonymous and I don't think that is the way it should be.

I'd sure like to make a nice donation to our local volunteer fire department. They do an outstanding job. Along with Calfire, of course.

Yeah, security would be a big concern. You would almost have to live in an armed camp, never travel alone. There are some nuts who think people keep that kind of money in their home.

Recall the story "The Man With The Golden Touch." That amount would be a curse to me. The first order of business is to find a reputable certified financial planner so you don't wind up being sued by every person you have ever spoken with and the IRS. I would never want to win that much.

Years ago, my cousin won $50,000 in the Rhode Island lottery. This is when State lotteries got started. She got $37,000 after taxes. They were on TV with the big cardboard check. Also they had just bought a home, and their name and address were in the phone book. They did everything NOT to do, when you win. They had to disconnect the phone and never answer the door. They were hounded by all kinds of people, who wanted money. The worst were parents banging at their door a 4 AM, who wanted money for their sick kids. This went on for over a year.

Just read a story on line about a winner that left his two tickets at the store counter. A good samaritan found them an tuned them in to the clerk. The guy returned and the clerk gave them back to him. Seems too good to be true. The amount I recall was around 278 million.

They had the guy ABC News a little while ago. A handyman who said he's been looking for a job for over a year.
