When I was learning to play the trumpet, I listened to his recordings for hours. Although I got pretty good with the instrument, the only part of his technique I really mastered was keeping my left hand covered with a white handkerchief. (You have to be a trumpeter to really get that.)

My father loved him and Ella. My monthly allowance was as much as an album cost but I got him one of each. Lots of grocery stamps and bottle deposits.
