Favourite dog books:

The Art Of Racing In The Rain by Garth Stein

Merle's Door by Ted Kerasote

Both had me snotty-nosed and blubbering by the last chapter.

Anyone else have a penchant for dog stories?

AOh yes...Susan Wilson "A Man of His Own". That was the first dog book I read by her. A man and fighting dog both meet by random chance and build a relationship together. Each chapter alternates between human and dog perspective...perfect! She's written other books focused on different breeds as well.

I love me dog.

He was given to us at 4 months old by our tenants.my little furball.

He is 10 now.he has early arthritis on his but how he manages his whole body to jump off the ground while he barks at my tenants clothes on the clothesline,It baffles me,lol

My Sophie, old and gray, but really loves the sound of her own voice. Callie for all his brawn comes up with "arrrooooff" even when he's foaming and hackles raised.

When I was little, I apparently had such a fear of dogs, if I spotted one a block away I'd climb my mother's legs and freak out. Who would have thought I'd become such a big dog lover. We've had 4 dogs, 3 rescue dogs from shelters. Our first dog, we got from a farmer at the Stouffville Farmer's Market back in '72.

Love hearing about other people's dogs and seeing their photos, Vicky. I'll look for that book at the library, fur.

I was really late to " Planet Dog". I didn't fear them. I just spent almost fifty years with cats thinking them superior. I mean dogs, need walking and training and they're groveling and needy...I had no idea. Yes they can be groveling and needy, but that translates to someone who knows you walk on water. Even just coming out of the bathroom and they are just overjoyed to see you again. I still love my kits but dogs are a whole different kind of love.

Wish I could have a cat, fur .. allergies. I do feel somehow "incomplete" without a pet to walk and love.

Right now, I'm just spoiling my daughter's new puppy, buying all sorts of chew toys for her. I'm ticked off at the price differences of pet toys. Bed Bath and Beyond shows online, the Wobble Wag Giggle Ball dog toy for 19.99 and it's 41.33 on Amazon. Pet Smart doesn't have it even though the website says they do.

Edit: Yippee, I found one on Amazon for 15.49!

My babies are special. Most toys are in pieces within minutes. The really well made ones might last a day or three. I buy most toys on clearance. Another dog book..."Rover Red Charlie", very graphic human violence, a brutal story but still well written and humorous at the same time.

I will look for the book at the library, fur. Sometimes the waiting lists are so long, I forget I've reserved them!

Going to hold off on that toy until pup is full grown.
