Loving life in the garage ...

I retired at 52 after a bout with cancer, and am 70 now. My wife and I live in northwest CO, on a 30 acre property in a beautiful setting, with a few neighbors, surrounded by a 80k acre ranch. I'm in the process of finishing up my 2100 sf shop, along with several other projects, and came here specifically looking for someone who might be interested in helping me. I'm in good physical condition for my age, and would require someone (or a couple) who are capable of, and would enjoy this kind of work, which will consist of all phases of construction, along with other projects in the shop, including automotive and machinery restoration, and a variety of other interesting work. Accommodations, and wages are open to discussion. My wife and I are fairly liberal politically, and in most other areas. Time off is as important as time on the job, though I must admit to being kind of a workaholic. If you, or someone you may know, would be interested in this proposal, please feel free to reply. Thanks for your consideration. Mike Should add this position would start sometime this coming spring, or early summer.

Have tried that route with little success. Had one young person, but didn't last long. I'm sure there are some young people out there that would fill the bill, but no luck finding them. Seems people closer to our age are more reliable, and have more of a work ethic. Thanks for the thought though. Cheers, Mike

Welcome, GG! I wonder if the nearest high school or college could recommend some of their students who might be interested in such work?

Welcome to the forum. Your property sounds beautiful but you didn't say where you're located. Just curious, not cut out for that kind of work. But if someone here is interested I imagine they'd want to know too.

Hey Geezer Garage. I'm not far from you. Unfortunately I'm not a good fit. Just wanted to say, I'd definitely be interested in something like that, if a work/housing exchange were part of the package. Because I want work projects to keep me busy, and lord knows I could use some extra income, or at least a break in bills. But I don't have a home, or even a vehicle. Thus if a (separate/private) housing unit were also offered... say Reduced rent in exchange for my labor, I'd probably snatch up the offer. If that is doable for you, guys like me might be ringing your phone off the hook. But if not doable.. you're in a rather remote location I assume, and therefore the job is not very appealing. The cost of gas alone, to drive out to your ranch, might outweigh whatever wages you're offering.
