Mad Men

Who is a fan of the show? I’ve just started watching it and I am now addicted to it for better or worse. I tried to stop watching it when there was an episode that was pretty nauseating. But then it drew me back in and I’m watching it again, it is truly a guilty pleasure. Our family lived in New York at the time and I believe the show is in large part an exaggeration of the times but what TV show isn’t as it wouldn’t be interesting otherwise.

I am an absolute fan of this TV series and took it very personal when it ended. I have no idea why it grabbed me like this, but it is my favorite TV series of all time. I have the entire series on disk and at this very moment I am sipping my whiskey from a Mad Men glass like they used on the show. I searched to find where I could get the plaid shirt he wore during the last episode (no luck), and there were millions of us trying to get our hands on a watch like the Omega that he wore in the last season. (Turns out it was specially made for the show.)
I cannot identify with Don Draper at all, and there were many, many times when I wanted to reach through the TV screen and slap him upside the head while he was doing something stupid. My wife was almost as big of a fanatic as I was.
In the past, I have been a fan of several series, but nothing like this. Here I am at 76 acting like a teen.
Some of my favorite shows of the past included: Northern Exposure, Hill Street Blues, Magnum PI, Hawaii Five-O, Cheers, Monk and Frazer. But nothing ever grabbed me like Mad Men, ….. and I actually liked the ending. (Except for the fact that it was the end.)

My wife and I were hooked and watched the entire series on Netflix. We even started drinking Old Fashioneds while watching, lol. Great show!

One scene on this show really sticks in my craw. It's very irrelevant to the show itself, but it is something I've never seen before on any tv show or movie. I believe it was season 2 when the Drapers were having a family picnic in the park, when they were done and ready to go home Betty Draper stood up and emptied the entire picnic blanket full of their trash all over the park and left. My wife and I both looked at each other in amazement of what just happened. Is this something that was commonplace in some areas back then, or was it just to show how selfish the Draper's were? Neither of us has ever seen anything like it.

I binge watched the entire series and enjoyed it a lot. There was so much drinking and smoking going on in the workplace on there it amazed me. Some of it was hard to watch and drawn out but all in all I'd say it was a good show!o_O

It’s funny you mentioned that episode about the littering, I just watched that episode last night LOL! I remember when I lived in New York in the 60s the sides of the roads were filthy with litter back then it seemed many people didn’t think twice about tossing things out of their cars not in our family though we thought that that was disgusting!

I tried it and couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll give it another try if I can find it.
Yes a while back I couldn’t get into it either but I started from episode one and I started to understand the characters and how they interacted and their personalities and that’s what really drew me in.

RR, have 4 or 5 Old Fashioneds and then watch it. 😄
It’s amazing how it shows the people drinking the alcoholic beverages all day at work and actually being able to function, I’d be passed out on the floor!

I've seen plenty of stuff tossed out of cars, but I've never seen littering on that scale and so blatant.

It is a great show and we wish there were more seasons coming.

I agree, most people would not be able to function on that much alcohol. A lot of the drinking was way overdone for the show in my opinion.

Thanks...I do have it on Netflix included with my free subscription which came with my T-Mobile phone purchase and included my children for free. But I won't tell my son...all he needs is to be shown drinking that much is cool 😎. I'll start with Season 1 in 2007...or did it improve later? Season 7 is from 2013-2015. That's the most current I'm showing.
