Make Each Day Count

Who_so_ever

Saved By Grace
I rather like the idea of keeping a diary. Seems that I (we?) have come full circle. It was something I did as a young'un and now at the other end of life.... I can do it again. :) Too bad the middle part will be missing, but I lived it, that's enough I reckon.

Today's devotional just so happened to be from my life verse: 'Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.' ~Colossians 3:2 It's such a 'simple directive', short and to the point. But I find it harder to live by than I first thought. I don't know about you all, but I can get so caught up in earthly things that I plum forget about what happens after! Life on earth is short when compared to eternity. All of 'this' will pass away and mean nothing. Yet I can get so distracted by the meaningless & unimportant things.... sigh

When I manage to stay focused and have affection for 'things above', well.... I'm a much better Who. :) I don't worry about what others may think of me, nor try to please people so that they might like me. (None of which matters in the end) I concern myself with what God thinks of me. I tend to treat people kinder, because we are all going through this life of madness. I'm not as quick to take offense or cause offense. I am gentler, more patient, and genuinely care about others (and their destination).

I pray that I am able to 'set my affections on things above' daily.

Why minimize your daily day. Obviously life on earth has importance. If not, we wouldn’t be here, right? Balance is the key. IMO
My day is not minimized at all! :) On the contrary, it is much fuller and more satisfying than when I focus on the small things that don't add up to much. I enjoy life and the day to day things, but my focus is not on them. Does that make sense?

The Bible verse the OP refers to is from Colossians 3:2. To me, it simply means that the values supported by the Bible should direct the actions of believers in living their daily lives; treating others as we want to be treated and living life responsibly.

Why do cats seem to think that 2am is the purr-fect time to race through the house as if they are being chased by the devil himself and crash into stuff that makes the loudest possible noise when it lands? That is a mystery we may never know the answer to. Unless one of you would be so kind as to share it with me.

This morning's scripture certainly gave me something to think on: "For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?" ~ Matthew 5:46-47. In this ol world, I reckon it's just 'easier' to "love them that love you" and no more... Earlier in that chapter Christ says, "But I say unto you, Love your enemies.." ~Matt.5:44

Glory be, that's hard! I ain't wantin to love someone that hates me or has caused me pain. Generally, that sorta thing is frowned upon; lovin an enemy. I'm supposed to love everyone, nevermind how they feel about me. And those that despise, mock or belittle me because I am a believer? I'm supposed to love them too! UGH!

What on earth was the Lord thinkin'?! (Therein lies the crux of the matter.) He wasn't thinkin on earth, He is always thinkin' on heaven. His ways are above ours and His thoughts also. I can't see the 'big picture' as He can, only a small part of it is visible to me. That's where the trust & obedience come in.

I think . . . no, I know that we all struggle with loving our enemies. It helps me to try to remember to"hate the sin but love the sinner".

Thank you @Who_so_ever for your posts. ❤️

Jesus said the GREATEST commandment is "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." (Mark 12:30) One way we can do this is to obey the second greatest commandment "Love your neighbor as yourself". (Mark 12:31) I try to honor him by remembering the terrible price He paid out of love for sinful people.

I woke up feelin a bit frazzled this morning. A quick scan of the news brought on a few unpleasant emotions. Logging on the computer further set my teeth on edge. A simple post, sharing a song, reeled me back in. (Thank you kindly, @CallMeKate ) I listened to it again and really focused on the message within. It's far too easy to get sad or frustrated with this ol world & it's inhabitants. So many angry, nonbelievers, scorners, lost, persecutors...

Scripture today was: Deuteronomy 4:29 ~ "But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul."
We all have free will and some folks just don't want any part of Jesus. They have a list of reasons or excuses why they turn away from our Lord... failing to see that most of the time their anger towards Him has nothing to do with Him - but with folks who claim to be Christian or institutions that have "God" on the door. :(

Deuteronomy 4:30 ~ When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;
It isn't too late for us to turn to God as long as we have breath. He wants to be our Comforter. Our shield. Our strength. But the human flesh has an ego problem and refuses to drop the pride, humble itself before Him and admit we need Him.

Deuteronomy 4:31~(for the LORD thy God is a merciful God he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee"
Notice the "if" at the beginning of this set of scriptures? People claim God has forsaken them, their family, their nephew's best friend's uncle.... but that is far from truth. God can not forsake that which never belonged to Him.

I've just returned from a lovely "vacation" around the web. Years ago, I was very active on a couple of sites. Things sure have changed....

DH & I worked in the yard over the weekend. Repotted the fig & avocado trees. Got the blackberry & blueberry bushes in the ground. Tomatoes & onions started. The pear, orange, peach & plum trees are leafing out nicely.

Took the instant pot for a test spin. I had never used one. Very impressed. We made Instant Pot Mexican Chicken and Rice Pinterest is my new friend! lol

Had a spell of chest pain, racing heart & shortness of breath yesterday. It can be so frustrating knowing what the future likely holds and not able to do anything about it. Just a short time in these ol bodies.... and then it gets better!
