Although I retired 12 years ago I always worried that I wouldn't get to retire. I saw others pass away by accident, disease or act of violence. As an LEO there was always that chance but I made it and very grateful to have come so far. Married, kids, promotions, kids raised right, kids with college degrees (me too) good spouses (kids and me) and grandkids. So much has passed so quickly but looking forward to more. Anyway just thinking of this waiting to pick up one of my grandkids. Thanks for looking.

Knowing that there is no guarantee is why I chose to retire here at 62 (instead of 65 [for medicare] or 67 [FRA]). With my wife having medical issues that will just get worse with age, wanted to retire at an age where we have (hopefully) some good quality years ahead of us to enjoy it. But also taking care to cover as many of the "gotchas" as I can. Jan 1 is my offical first day in retirement.
