This afternoon my 'movie buddy',Alexei and I saw the movie'Mary,Queen of Scots"
The movie centers around the conflict between Scotland and England in 1569.Mary Stuart,Queen of Scotland tries to overthrow her cousin,Elizabeth 1
I've read mixed reviews, not a great movie but we enjoyed it,slow paced in some scenes
The cast was good,Saoirse Ronan'Mary,Margot Robbie'Elizabeth,Jack Lowden,"Lord Danley" Mary's 2nd husband,Guy Pearce,Brendan Coyle,Joe Alwyn
The movie is based on the book by John Guy:"Queen of Scots:True Life of Mary Stuart"

I love history and especially the dysfunctional Tudors, but Mary Q of Scots is so historically inaccurate it makes me sick. Mary never spoke with a Scots accent. Her mother was Marie de Guise and she grew up in France where she was betrothed to, and later married the dauphin. She and Elizabeth NEVER met so the whole movie is just an invention. Honestly. How people fall for this stuff I don't understand.

chic, I'm sorry to hear this as I wasn't familiar with this part of history and was looking forward to watching this movie. Guess I will do some reading on my own and watch the movie when it's released in dvd.

Love your historical accuracy chic!

Thanks Pepper. I took a fascinating course on Tudor Women while in college and learned so much. As soon as I saw the trailer for this film and heard Mary with a Scots brogue, I was like wait a minute. She was raised in France from the age of 4 so if she had any accent it would have been French. I think it's pretty common knowledge that she and Elizabeth never met face to face. Elizabeth had contracted small pox and her skin was scarred and she lost most of her hair so in part she wouldn't meet Mary because tales of Mary's beauty were legendary. On a more personal note she didn't want to meet a cousin she would one day need to execute. Elizabeth wisely felt it would set a bad precedent - executing a queen. She was one herself and tried tried to keep Mary alive.

If anyone goes to see it, just take it with a grain of salt. Right?
