Do you enjoy receiving and giving massages? I love massage. I espcially love receiving one, but I give them too. Having my hands and feet and especially my neck ( where I hold a lot of tension ) massaged almost makes me limp with relaxation. There's nothing as healthy as a massage, I think. Human touch can be so beneficial to our physical helath as well as our emotional well being.

How do you feel abou this? Do you enjoy massage?

I have been going for regular massage for several years. It's helped with muscle problems caused by too much sitting (I have a desk job) or tightness after a surgery. The woman I have been seeing really knows her stuff, and while the massage is not relaxing per se, it does help to loosen up my muscles. I just went this past weekend and had been having lower back pain. She identified the problem and recommended some exercises/yoga techniques to help stretch the muscle that was causing the problem.

I have gone for massages before... I usually go to Mario Tricocci's. I have enjoyed them... Maybe it's time I look for a less expensive salon and go more often.. It's just never on my "to do" list.

I go regularly for a Swedish Style Masssage and have for years.Every 10 days or so. One Hour to 90 minutes. It's a Retirement Self Indulgence.

The power of human touch is just awesome. I remember interning at a nursing home. One of the more enjoyable duties was going room to room to do hand massage. There were some folks for whom it was their only physical contact of the day. It was so rewarding, seeing how relaxed people can get.
I wouldn't be comfortable with a full body massage. But when I get a pedicure the technician will massage my legs and feet. Ohhh my yes, what's better than sex? I'd go there every day if I could afford it.

I've had need of massage a couple times after falling off my horse! Extremely painful because I was so knotted up but very helpful in healing.

I even trained as a massage therapist for horses in my younger years. Once got to work on a Clydesdale stallion and that was like trying to massage a house! Enormous but it fixed him. He'd been refusing to do anything more than a five step trot for several weeks, and after the massage was done, we took him in the arena and let him off the lead line and he galloped around with freedom of movement and was so excited. His trainer was thrilled needless to say. Somehow, on all that horse, I managed to pinpoint the exact spot where the knot had built up and freed him from the pain. I was pretty thrilled too.

I had to give it up though after a couple years because I wrecked my shoulder while trying to pound a post in by myself.

Yes, this is what I mean. Many seniors don't get touched enough espeically if they live alone and their spouse has died or they live in a nursing home. Human contact is so important for wellness. I don't mean people need to go out and pay a pro for a massage. In my life friends give friends massages all the time. It feels great and it's totally free. No strings attached. You get one and you give one. Everybody's happy. There's nothing sexual about it.

I've only had a few in my life, they seem like a very expensive luxury, but I did enjoy them. I went when I was having some soreness and tension in my back and neck, only one was full body. I have given them to my husband several times, and his parents just on the neck and shoulders when they were elderly and living with us. I wouldn't want to do it for a living.

I rarely get headaches, but once after an intense back/neck massage, I had a headache all afternoon. I figured it was from some toxins being released from my body, at least that's what I had read.

When I used to to to Acupuncture, (I swear it helped with my headaches) they would always give a short massage. I really liked it. I really liked this office and the Acupuncturist. But they sold the business and it's all different people now. I have to feel very comfortable with the person if I get a massage. I have such body image issues. I've never had a full massage but would love it.

It's something I wish we had for our resident's in long term care also. I think it could be a great benefit.
